Probably the best song I ever wrote.  Not about anyone in particular, just my perfect imaginary psychedelic rainbow 🌈 girl.  

Maybe loosely influenced by the Rolling Stones “She’s a Rainbow” albeit no obvious likeness.  I love the psychedelic rainbow 🌈 feel to it and the Samba 💃 beat 👍.

05 Rainbow Eyes

With the year 2,000 fast approaching the idea was to write an anthem to celebrate 🎉 the new Millennium that would last forever.  I send demos of this to all the big name artists around at the time hoping someone would express an interest in recording it.  No one did 👎.

This is the second version of the song, the earlier version having more horns and fewer lyrics.  It will always be a Millennium anthem to me 👍.

01 Around The World Tonight (V2)

Possibly my best ever song.  Not written about anyone in particular, just my perfect psychedelic 🌈 fantasy girl.  

I love the Samba beat.  The song may have been influenced by the Rolling Stones “She’s a Rainbow 🌈 ” but if so there is no resemblance.

07 Rainbow Eyes

This is me singing to my dearly beloved ❤️ wife Jane asking her to marry me.  But she isn’t accepting my advances and thinks a lifetime with me is too much to endure 😱.

Clearly not as she managed it in the end 😂🤣.

06 Unrequited Love Song (V1)

This song is about a guy I used to work with called Andrew (Bunter) Sedgewick.  He had three kids that he doted on and this song is about his happy family life 🙂😊😍.

Unfortunately something went wrong and he divorced about 10 years after the song was recorded 😢.

05 Simple Man

This song is a sad song 😢 about my mother’s cousin Flossie Southam.  She was a young starlet who attracted fame and fortune but married the wrong guy and ended up a penniless alcoholic.  All very sad.

In 1997 I tracked her down to her last know address in Marlow only to find she had passed on two years earlier.

But I guess she enjoyed the good times 🎉.

04 Pamplemoose

A song about my dearly beloved next door neighbour already described on the Draguignan Coe EP.

03 Draguignan Coe is in Mas-Nou

A song I wrote about a former work colleague who was very la-di-da and I used to think of her as being The Queen 👑.  The song is not about a relationship I was having with her but about a relationship she was having with the boss at the time that was at best - inappropriate 😱.

She was also very French 🇫🇷 hence the very French feel to the song.

02 The Queen And The Pauper

A song I wrote for my dearly beloved ❤️ wife to sing about me after I am gone.  She is looking back remembering me and like some kind of ghost I join her to sing harmony in the last verse.  Somehow the song is very pertinent right now.

01 A Place In My Heart

Always intended to be a love song ❤️ for someone - hence the song title “My Fair Lady”.  However due to the failure of my Tascam 8-track no words were written at the time.

I eventually found the right lady 👸 to write the words for 20 years later and there is a video of the backing track and written words below, albeit I was never able to record the words and complete the song 😢.

A song written about a Warrior ⚔️ Princess 👸 from the Lord of The Rings trilogy.  Words were written but never recorded as my Tascam 8-track recorder had failed by then 😢.

A remake of the instrumental track for an older song.  Sadly by this time my Tascam 8-track recorder had failed and my wife and I were unable to record the vocals 😢.

Hi Everyone.  Iain Rowe here.  

Just a bit of background information about the songs on this site.  I played in a local Northampton band throughout the 1990’s and went through a very creative period when I recorded more than 20 original songs on a Tascam 8-track cassette recorder 🎤🎸🎹🎷🥁.

The Tascam machine eventually stopped working and I never upgraded to digital.

I am a life long Beatles fan and the songs that you can enjoy here are largely influenced by Sir Paul McCartney.  In other words I like his style of strong melodies and strong chord progressions.  Thanks Paul 👍.

Lyrics are a bit more cynical, some are actually quite cruel, and are perhaps more in the style of The Kinks than The Beatles.  Others are more gentle and others are intended to be funny - plain and simple.

All songs on this site are self-penned originals except for two songs “Blue Roses” and “Still I Dream of it” from the “Crocodile Shoes” television series.  Those songs are written by Paddy McAloon of Prefab Sprout.

Whilst all of these songs 🎶 date from the late 1990’s I am at the end of my life now and wanted to share them before I go.  Thank you for listening and understanding ❤️.
