I'm an avid 30 year+ plus fan of electronic music but only in the last few months have started tinkering with my husband's DJ equipment. This set starts with an old track we have on vinyl from the epic Hooj Choons label. I am definitely still learning how/when to mix (refusing to use autosync and mixed in key) and each new recording I am learning all the things I still haven't even come close to mastering (but my husband data.source can do in sleep on 1200's) but my motto: don't care, still having fun.

Granted Wish

Continuing to learn the craft and let's be clear I post these so I can listen to the while I work.  Most of the songs are in the UKG family which I love this genre because it has drum and bass (liquid)vibes and tends to have great old house and R&B samples. This is definitely on the mellow end of UKG and I lean towards seeking out songs that have have a house vibe and  other samples/edits of my youth.

Future Garage

Recorded this one for the drive to lovely Buena Vista, CO to witness a few dear friends tie the knot. On my continued quest to learn the craft o-djing on the rotary mixer and CDJ's.  Month 4 of the new hobby. 

This vibe is House. A little house, latin house, afro house, hip-hop vibes -- all my favorite flavors of house. 

Each time I tinker and record, I learn a bit more about what NOT to do and what is working.

a little ditty for a friend on an amazing journey.... it was supposed to be all minimal but I just couldn't do it.... :)

Gotta say this set was hard for me. I put 2 old mid 90's trance songs in here which I found really hard to mix. So I've learned some genres of music are much easier to mix than others. There are mixes that I'm not thrilled about in this one but hey ain't nobody paying me for this shit :)... I continue to learn and be humbled by a skill my husband mastered in the 90's.

This set goes right back to my earliest musical influences. From my Chilean mother who loves all the Latin beats (such as Sergio Mendes) and her best friend, an amazing black woman who loved R&B, jazz, blues and disco. This set just makes me think of being in my Mom's best friend house and her dancing around in her amazing kaftan's smelling like shea butter and saying "come my sweet Annie, let's dance!"

The full set. Me messing around to make a bday set for a friend in the depths of a snowy winter day in December.  The first half of the set is the "Blessings" set I posted in the winter. I decided to post the full set because enough friends shared this is one of their fave sets of mine so may as well share the full journey.  And the ending... an ode to those who share a love of the Smiths.

The return, the pilgrimage, the communion. The laughs, the love, the connections, the food, the land, all the amazing gifts and of course the hostess with the most-est. 

This set is for the ladies from my Xanadu Burning Man crew. This year 16 of us (who do not have the same taste in music) met for our annual winter gathering to spend a lovely heartfelt weekend together. They all like different styles of music so this set is a fun one to figure out how to tap into different genres over the course of a few hours. 

The set is broken into the following chapters: 
Chapter 1: The Get Up 
Chapter 2: Take Off (56 min mark) 
Chapter 3: Tip toe into Techno (1:33 min mark) 
Chapter 4: Goin' to Church (1:56 min mark) 

The last chapter is an intentional journey through many edits of songs that have deep memories for me growing up. It was fun to see everyone singing at the top of their lungs.

Dropping In: Uninhibited

Well I had my ear set on recording a full drum and bass set as my next recording but... after an amazing breathwork class, this is what poured out the next day. The breathwork was amazing and I was able to release some of the sorrow of I've still been holding with loss of our beloved family pet of 12 years and some of the worries that aren't serving me (when do they ever serve us?).

This set is for the re-awakening of springtime: moving out of introspection and into the next version.

Part of a random 4 hour tinker sesh. A little ode to Ron Carroll in here. I was blessed to have seen him DJ at a tiny party in Chicago a few years back. He ended the set with "Is it a Crime" by Sade and I cried with joy. There's also a Prince remix of Sign of the Times by Moontalk in here as a warm hug to one of my most treasured friends. Sending you a wonderful Happy Birthday!

Fall Back

This is the 2nd half of a 4+ hour tinker sesh from mid-October. The first half is the Fall Back set. This half is more representative of me grappling with some difficult realities. There a moments in life where we can feel like were just holding on and waiting for the light to return.

Breaking to Pieces

This is an old vinyl set I recorded when the real DJ in my house, DJ BioJeff was out of town. I had been throwing in a record or two of Good Looking Records into the pile of records pretty much every time we went record shopping. This was one of the first times I recorded a set. This set still makes me happy.
