Portrait XO (she/they) is an independent researcher and transdisciplinary artist.  Recently awarded jazzki award by ELBJAZZ (June 2023), the first German human-AI jazz prize, she’s been recognized over the years for her work in sonic innovation with AI audio pioneers Dadabots.  

The core of her works address bias in society, translate speculative opinions about AI, and critique the impact of AI on creativity, identity, underrepresented cultures and society.

Burning Dream

The title outlines the piece's structure, through a homogeneous yet mictro contrapuntal texture, the ensemble transitions and warps the harmonic and melodic planes throughout. Based on Scriabin's Colour Wheel, a 7 note chord is broken down, representing the spectrum, pitches move in and out the piece, changing the mood, feeling and tone throughout. 
The piece was given a High Commendation from the Panel of the BBC Inspire Competition. Panellists included Judith Weir, Anna Meredith, Jonathan Dove, and Fraser Trainer.

Cinematic Atmosphere Interweaved

I’ve made a little ambient mix of some of my all time favourite peaceful music.

The mix was originally made for a clinical trial for people undergoing something of a reconstructive therapy. It was designed to repeatedly and slowly transition between relaxed reflection, and stimulation of new thoughts, running for a 2 hrs 30 mins session. You’ll probably hear what I mean in the structure.

It also includes some unreleased music of mine which hasn’t been heard before, alongside many of the most beautiful pieces I could find. I hope you enjoy it.
