Six Blade Knife

This song is again recorded with my phone. (Next probably a DAW song!) Motörhead has a cover of "Johnny B. Goode", so I Iistened to the original from the 50s! Chuck Berry Rock ‘n Roll. The intro is great, there are more songs with similar intros. They are so cool that I wanted to learn them at the end of last year and did. In this song, I just use my version of it as the intro. I play it a little lower so it's appropriate for my song. The last chord of the intro is the 1st chord of my song, except I play it as a power chord instead of a major chord. Some of my intro version is pretty much like the original, some is my version. It's really fun to play with these Rock ’n Roll intros, I could do it for hours. In one of the covers of the songs with these intros, the one with Beethoven in the title, there's an orchestral version of Beethoven's famous symphony at the beginning. I wanted that too, but of course only on my guitar, so I made up a guitar version of it and put it in front of the Rock ‘n Roll intro. Only after that my own song begins. It's even more freely than my 1st song here. I know the chords and riffs and lyrics, but decide always when playing when to change the riff. So the recording is a way for me to learn to produce one special version and not play it differently each time. You will hear that it is played and sung very freely. So consider it as a song performance for friends, not really a well-structured and finished song. Furthermore, I play nearly everything as slides, so it is harder to play then it sounds. I wanted to play it a bit faster, but it was not possible, this is the fastest drum accompaniment my amplifier has, it doesn't go any faster. One the other hand, for some parts of the lyrics it would be really difficult to sing it any faster.

THE 27 CLUB has become one of the most elusive and remarkably tragic coincidences in rock & roll history. The term became widely known after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, with rock fans connecting his age to that of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones and Jimi Hendrix – though it was notable to fans in the early 1970s when those four visionaries died within just two years of each other. When Amy Winehouse passed away at age 27 in 2011, it attracted even more attention to the significance of the age. While the club has been largely connected to musicians, it has expanded since, as many young actors and artists have lost their lives due to everything from addiction to suicide to freak accidents. The unfortunate and untimely losses are connected to the 27club.

Composition – The Eclectic Collective


This song started as a guitar skeleton that had been a twinkle in Tez's eye several years ago. He'd been hanging on to it in hopes of finding a suitable home for it. When he introduced it to the Eclectic Collective, we all jumped on it. First up was Ken, laying in his dynamic, powerful drums and percussion. Then Stephen laid down some fiery fills as well as a solid comp part on his guitar. That's about the time Mark started messing with it. He added some great VST fiddle, some real mouth harp, and piano and began working on the lyrics and vocal melody. I was atypically late to the party, but managed to get my bass in there, too, thus completing the rhythm section. JJ was next up with his splendid organ and synth to fill in the sound. 

  By this time, Mark had written and recorded some absolutely stunning vocals, which he added to the mix. We all decided that it had a Rod Stewart/Faces vibe to it, so we tried to amplify that flavor. To this end, I dropped in a mandolin part, as well.

  At this point, the song was kind of flat, though, in terms of overall dynamics, so the decision was made to amp up the crescendo at the end. Ken summoned his best Keith Moon energy, and Tez laid down a killer solo, while Stephen added the big Townsend chords. 

  Mark had been editing and mixing the whole time, and did such an excellent job with it, we decided to go with his mix from the group project. Stephen did master it masterfully before we put it out here, too, though.

This marks the fourth collaboration with my SoundCloud friend, Seashea. I truly respect him, and I really love his guitar work. We especially have a great connection when it comes to ambient music. When I heard he was going on a journey for a while, we decided to create this track together. I’m deeply moved that our shared understanding across the ocean has come together in this form. For this artwork, I used a photo taken by him at the beach.
I’d like to present this track in celebration of Seashea and his wife’s wonderful journey.
