Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this @ednamartinezdj . Made a mix with songs that say more than anything I could write really.....Going to play two songs I wrote a while ago, one which I performed live in January 2020 at the Museum of Memory & Human Rights in Santiago and another which was made shortly after, they're both influenced by what was taking place in Chile at the time which mirrors in some ways what we are seeing in Colombia now. As some of you may know, since the end of april in Colombia there have been more than 2,000 cases of police violence against protesters, 33 victims of eye injuries and more than 40 civilians killed by the police. Since the beginning of the year more than 60 rights defenders have been assasinated, and among them 20 were indigenous leaders. Since 2016, over 400 human rights defenders have been killed. In all this darkness, there may be some hope that the protests can create meaningful change. Last Sunday, Chileans elected a new group of citizens who will write a new constitution for the country. This was one of the core demands of the huge protests of 2019/2020.  It will be the first anywhere in the world to be written by an equal number of men and women and it will replace the constitution that has been in place since the years of the military dictatorship.  The only reason this moment of hope is possible in Chile is because of the incredible social movements that rose up to demand change. As I've said elsewhere, the courage and determination of Chilean students, activists, protesters, writers, artists has been astounding and they have/are shifted/shifting the political landscape and will continue to do so. In the past month I've heard stories of Colombian protesters taking cues from Chilean protesters and beautiful solidarity between Colombians and Palestinians also. We have so much to learn from each other. May this solidarity and interconnectedness bring us better days and in the meantime may music sustain us and nourish us. Solid Grooves has built a strong following of loyal fans over the years. Starting out as an event series, the London based brand has since achieved global success including a prevalent Ibiza residency last year. Launching as a label in 2015, it wasn’t long before Solid Grooves Records topped Beatport’s overall charts with Wade’s remix of Dennis Cruz ‘See Line’ and cemented its reputation as an infallible imprint, releasing music from names such as Kuo Climax, ONNO, David Pher and Brett Gould.

Dennis Cruz leads the way with ‘Fake’, a vocal focused track with throbbing bass, chopped up samples and infectious percussive components before Franz Costa’s ‘Kate’ blends a medley of intricate rhythmic elements for a trippy low-slung production.

The label co-founders are up next, with Michael Bibi unleashing a roaring low-end in ‘Devil’s Candy’ whilst a spoken word sample operates through, making way for PAWSA’s ‘Taking Over’ – an atmospheric house track geared for powerful subs featuring dub inspired stabs and sharp hats. Reelow then concludes the package, demonstrating his signature style with a cacophony of percussion and mesmerizing effects.

After a little break, we are now delighted to welcome ALUNA to our podcast series.
 
ALUNA  depicts the joined talents and complementary creations of Maywa and Steffen Kirchhoff, world travellers and soul explorers. Their music project aspires to the creation and spreading of ritualistic music, leading the listeners to reconnect with the Earth, to harmonize with Nature, and with its endless wonders. It’s healing music, it’s music to dance, it’s music to love.
Their vision is embodied by their selection of sounds, idyllic melodies, and fascinating vocals, all permeated of Latin American flavours. In fact, their music project finds its origin in the Columbian forests where these beautiful souls first met, as soloist artists. The word ALUNA also descends from the natives of that land. Among the Kogi people, it stands for the “invisible spirit realm”, the source and intelligence of life. After that magic encounter, the two artists gathered again in April 2017 on the shores of the Baltic sea, where their first melodies were produced. This marked the nascence of ALUNA. Since then, the two started their spiritual journey across Europe spreading their message of reconciliation through live-sets, often uplifted by cacao ceremonies.
Talking about this set, Steffen stated “For UCR we wanted to create something really unique”, an unparalleled production by two inspired and inspiring artists, created with pure love. The enchanting blend of Maywa’s live vocals and Steffen’s organic sounds reproduces the vibe of their ceremonial live-sets. The magical journey begins with an invocation by Maywa who gently guides the listeners to connect with themselves, with their higher mind, with their essence, and to open an ethereal connection with the whole, with the elements, with the cosmos. The energy of the moon inspired her to plant the seed for this podcast. A deep travel into her sensibility and vulnerability prepared her soul to connect with the sounds and melodies that would have then composed the podcast. Those drive listeners through heavenly forests, in the inviolate Nature. A travel in space and time till the origin of the world. A dark silent world purely animated by the potential of life to exist.
Now lay back comfortable, dim the lights, make sure nobody will disturb the listening. Relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy the journey.
