Rythmes isolés

For this third episode of my "Rythmes Isolés" series, I chose to create something more upbeat. This podcast represents a map of my psyche throughout 2021, with its highs and lows, ups and downs. As it follows the rollercoaster of my moods, it keeps its signature afrohouse touch and welcomes a more techno and deep-house approach. 

I am not just one thing, I am all the things.

Ep. 3 : Nos Jours Heureux

"Rythmes Isolés" is a concept I created in 2020. At that time, I found solace in music and in the belief that even though we were apart, music will always keep us close to each other. 2 years later, I have evolved as an artist and the situation also changed.

I have decided to divide this Ep. 4 in two parts. The first part "Messe de Minuit" is a collection of healing music, with low and high energy oscillating and merging together. Every time I close my eyes and I listen to this recording, I see myself elsewhere, where I'm no longer bound, where I am free.

"Bewekedi" in my mother tongue means "sunrise", it is the name of my mother and it symbolises hope for a better day.

The 5th of August last, I made my debut in Pianoland, Amsterdam. Giving me the freedom to bring a more ethereal yet punchy afro house sound that evening, I'm sharing with you this 1h30 recording. It oscillates between dreaming voices paired with strong drums and snares, to the rhythms of tribal claps.

This summer, I was invited by WhoMadeWho to take part in their outstanding lineup during their boutique festival in Copenhagen named "The Moment". I attended the first edition during Covid and it left a lasting impression on me. It opened my eyes to a different approach towards music. Since then, I've traveled far, met various individuals and I grew as an artist. Today, I release this piece as a testimony of my path thus far. It is true to who I am and who I'm trying to become.

Notre Temps Ensemble - The Moment CPH Festival Set

After a little more than 3 years, I am proud to release this last opus of my “Rythmes isolés“ episodes. This adventure started during the 2020 lockdown. I had found my style in the South African electronic music scene but I had nowhere to perform. What has always been a medium of expression carried me through Covid and the years after. Fast forward 3 years later, I am able to play in Europe, the Middle East and in Asia. 

This last episode is my farewell to a significant period of my career. I am a different artist than when i started and I'll keep growing. Thank you for tuning in. Farewell “Rythmes Isolés“, farewell 2023, I am ambitious for the future.

A spark can stem from almost anything. A wild party in Berlin, a crazy after in Amsterdam or simply strolling by a lake near Brussels. Trying to wander outside of my comfort zone, I bring you my very own "étincelle".

Etincelle (Acte 4)

After a few silent months, I'm thrilled to share my most recent mix and my very first under the name "Chuck Black". 

Lucky to perform in Super Social in Amsterdam with "Noires Sucrées", this is my opening set. Nothing says summer like a variety of disco and funky tunes associated with a selection of groovy house songs.

Sentiments Dévoués

I like to think music, just as life, is an adventure. 

Throughout this endeavor, I have been pondering over what defines my music. While gathering what I've learned since my first time in Amsterdam with my temporary settlement in Paris, I've been nurturing a propensity towards percussions and african beats. 

Attempting to create a cocktail of bouncy tunes, I give you Tarzan. This is what I hope a fine mix between light and dark harmony whose sole goal is to make you dance.

Tarzan

Following the holiday celebrations, I've decided to start 2018 anew. Eveil ushers in a new path quite different from what I've been doing until now. Embracing a more complex genre of house, Eveil regroups a collection of "spiritual" tunes you could listen and dance to. Finally, this work marks the beginning of a collaboration with my brother Alex Coly under the name Coup De Foudre.

Invested in a more conscious approach of my music, this is also a tribute to Malcolm X and Jean D'Ormesson.

Eveil [Coup de Foudre Records]

Following my very first performance in Amsterdam Open Air, I am thrilled to introduce « purée de piment ».

« Purée de piment » or « pimento paste » is a typical Cameroonian spice recipe that will uplift each and any of your meal. Through such naming, my endeavour is to bring forth a collection of genres I’m fond of, arranging them in my very own way. From suave African and west indies disco tunes, we dive in some iconic house French produced songs before digging deeper into D-House. 

With a lot of different depths to it, « Purée de piment » aims to become at the same time, a chill yet exhilarating summer anthem.

« Moby Deep » is my white whale. 

It has been quite sometime now that i have been willing to create a wavy recording, going deep, electronic and perhaps hard as to translate what I have been going through since I fully dedicated myself to music. I found inspiration for this piece when i broke my ankle a few months ago. From that powerless perspective, I have tried many times to find the exact formula to put my frustration into music. The recording happened during my time in the south of Italy when I felt at peace and rested. After a few finishing touches, I give you my white whale, recorded live: my pain, my love, my anguish, and my happiness.

Moby Deep [Coup de Foudre Records]

Isolated from each other since the pandemic broke down, some deal with it better than other. Yet, one thing is certain, we crave for one another. Bearing that in mind, this collection of warm, uplifting records aims to bring us all together no matter the distance. It is an afro-house special, gathering rhythms from the motherland with electronic and deep touches. From there to here, from me to you, together apart.

Ep. 1 : La Modestie

Just as the first lockdown gave me the tools to compose the first episode of "Rythmes isolés" in March, this second isolation has given me the opportunity to create this piece. 

This composition is dedicated to all the people I didn't get to meet this year, all the nights we didn't spend dancing, all the moves we couldn't exchange. Mixing my African roots with my love of house music, i wish this creation works for you as much as it has for me, so that we can dance towards 2021.

Ep. 2 : Pandemic Times

La mélodie des sentiments.

Rooted in my Cameroonian-French upbringing, I have tried to dive into various styles I learned to love over the time, from Deep-house to Electronic beats while packing on Afro-house rhythms. Each set I have created until now marks a vital point in my growth with the sole purpose of conveying my feelings through my very own style of emotional instinctive selection.
