Music is one of the most powerful tools for growth and expression, and that couldn’t ring any truer for Demetrius “Dee Lo” Atkins. 

The aspiring artist has always turned to music for strength and his own freedom and happiness. Born in New Orleans, but raised in the Lynwood section of Los Angeles, Dee Lo’s life has had its share of hardship, including growing up in the foster care system since he was just five years old.

Music gave him an outlet to create his own reality, and before long he started writing and rapping. His next step lead him to singing, where he joined a church choir as a young 13-year-old.

That experience opened many doors for his artistic gifts, teaching him to sing, play drums, keyboards and other instruments. He was a natural and it became clear that music was his path. 

He’s been working on it ever since and is gearing up to make his mark in the music world with his latest work: single called “Flex On My Ex” that deals with the very relatable issue of love gone wrong.

Creating music that people can relate and vibe to is important to him, especially knowing what it’s done for his life. Always thankful for its impact, he’s ready to share his own story and help the next generation of music lovers.
