We are delighted to announce that our first release of 2016 is the label debut from Orlando Volcano. The Brooklyn-based producer joins the Liminal Sounds camp with his new five-track EP ‘Complete Concrete’, featuring Gemma Dunleavy.

While Orlando Volcano may not have a big back catalogue just yet, the multi-talented DJ, producer and Escape From Nature label boss has been quietly and confidently developing a sound that is all his own. Connecting the dots between England, Jamaica and USA, his music deftly balances nuanced emotion, fluid musicality and powerful club physicality. This unique approach is in full evidence across the five tracks that make up the rugged yet refined ‘Complete Concrete’.

Opener ‘My Dream Life’ sets the pace for the EP, setting off its playfully buoyant melodies against a sharp rhythmic bounce. This leads smoothly in to ‘Mixed Messages’, which features vocals from Irish singer Gemma Dunleavy, who has previously worked with the likes of Murlo and Ziro. Here her soulful vocal performance sweeps through Orlando’s production to create a shimmering dancehall anthem destined for discerning summer dancefloors.

The EP takes a darker turn through the eerie maze of ‘Gold Bars Rhythm’ before emerging in to the light once again as the glistening synths of ‘The Mantis’ unfurl over a marching drum line. Completing the EP is the aptly-titled ‘Final Exhalation’, which carries ‘Complete Concrete’ out on a poignant end note.

Fresh from the release of the recent Orlando Volcano EP, we are pleased to welcome another new artist to the roster for LMNL010. French Mount Ultra joins the Liminal Sounds family with his debut record, ‘Static Assembly’.

The five-track ‘Static Assembly’ EP articulates a defiantly uncompromising approach, unleashing a sound that has been honed across two self-released records, including the gnarled architecture of the ‘Sirens. Heavy. Poison.’ EP that first caught our ear last summer.

Mangling traditional club tropes, French Mount Ultra replaces clean lines and familiar structures with industrial grit and violent sonic shifts. Taking the confrontational energy of grime and warping it in to new shapes, ‘Static Assembly’ is dark, vivid and totally unpredictable.

“The main inspiration for the EP came from breaking, or sneaking, into abandoned factories and industrial sites in my hometown, Port Talbot. I'd find my way in, look around and then just listen to nothing, which always seems sinister and ominous, and that was what I wanted the project to sound like. After that I kept having dreams of being in an empty factory which was lit by a blinding white light. Some of the tracks take more from London, where I've lived for about 8 years. All in all it came from a place of visions rather than sounds, which is interesting. I wanted it to be like a weird dream.” - French Mount Ultra

We are pleased to announce the label debut from Chow Down affiliate and NTS regular Grizzle, who joins the Liminal Sounds family with his new EP, ‘Consort’, featuring ShaqyDread.

Building on the foundations laid by his previous releases, including a self-released collaborative EP with Fallow and the standout ‘Entreaty’ on Blacklink Sound’s ‘Black Label Edition 2’ last year, the new record is Grizzle’s most fully realised project to date.

Across the four tracks, Grizzle’s layered, vivid instrumentals are the product of the colliding musical and individual connections that have informed the EP. Taking inspiration from a new wave of UK rap experimentation whilst tapping into something more personal and contemplative, ‘Consort’ is a potent blend of emotion and energy.

Opening with the colourful, RnB inflected bump and grind of the title track, Grizzle then teams up with ShaqyDread on ‘Sermon’, a shock of wiry percussion, moody synths and booming bass anchored by the Tottenham MC’s versatile delivery. Switching gears again, ‘Eleusis’ releases the pressure with its glistening melodies and emotive, pitched-up vocals before the EP plays out on the languorous, bittersweet soul of closing track ‘Unmoor’.

Grizzle - Eleusis

Liminal Sounds is the London-based label giving a voice to underground artists from across the globe. From Air Max ’97 in Melbourne to She’s Drunk in Berlin, the imprint has a knack for spotting tremendous, tenacious talent from far and wide.

This time around, the label has lined up a debut release from a producer based a little closer to home. A regular on London's very own NTS Radio and an affiliate of Mancunian club night Chow Down, Grizzle lands on Liminal Sounds with a bang this month as he unleashes his 'Consort' EP.

As a release, the four-tracker is vivid, varied and rich in its approach to futuristic club sounds. Taking inspiration from the new wave wonders of the UK rap scene and blending it with something inherently personal, 'Consort' is a kaleidoscopic project bursting with energy and lashings of heated percussion.
