In 2021-2022, despite my newfound success in the electronic music scene, I ironically found myself at a creative low point. It was like I was cosplaying a distilled marketable version of myself. At some point, I stopped creating music for myself and instead started shaping my sound based on what I imagined others—fans, managers, friends, industry executives—wanted from me. It worked on paper and I still managed to write some music I love - but it was far more strenuous on my mental health than it needed to be. I convinced myself that anything I created that didn’t fit within the “Skybreak Coded” mold had to be ironic.

Through creating ironic art, I realized that only I can define what “Skybreak Coded” really means. It’s a thousand times repeated cliche, but by truly letting go of others perceptions of me and allowing my subconscious to take over, was my path back to creative nirvana. I figured it’d be kinda meta to write this song about that struggle to let go and become the most honest version of myself NOW. Toronto based Ana and Tyr seemed to resonate with this theme greatly. Since starting this tune, we’ve all become great friends, even performing this tune on stage together at the Rampage festival in Belgium.

In preparation to write this project, I deep dove into the roots of the genre to pay my respects to pioneers like Benga, Skream and Coki. The original Dubstep music that came out of Croydon, UK in the early 2000s just has a certain swagger and viscerality to it that I’d never explored in my music before. While it’s a little different sonically to the work these pioneers put down, CAN’T LET GO is my honest attempt to harness that swagger and fuse it with my signature colorful sound design. I’ve been meaning to give the Drum & Bass genre a PROPER shot for a while now. I feel like there’s a stigma about Dubstep Artists making DnB since it’s such a vastly different workflow, and I was never confident enough in my technical chops to try to say something meaningful with the genre. But when I started HALF BLOOD, it felt like a good time to strike! I started ANTIMATTER at a time where I was RELIGIOUSLY bumping Noisia, The Caracal Project and Mefjus and this was my attempt at emulating the pocket that they all manage to obtain in every single tune. I bingewatched their tutorials/interviews trying to wrap my head around their music making philosophy.
 
Once the instrumental was done, I knew I wanted the lyrics to say something deeper than the average hype DnB song. It took a few tries to find a lyricist who was down for the extra challenge, but I came across a Brighton-based MC named Purple Velvet Curtains who agreed to work on the record and absolutely nailed it. The two of us resonated on this theme of how the feeling of glory and fame is cyclical - if you're tempted too much by ulterior motives and others perceptions, you lose the plot on why you really do this.

We wrote and recorded the whole topline in an intense six hour studio session in Croydon, London. I’ve been writing poems and song lyrics for my entire life, but had never attempted to write a Rap until this track. It was an extremely refreshing experience getting to collaborate on a new medium and PVC was patient with me throughout the entire process.

Skybreak - ANTIMATTER (feat. PVC)

'Toy' was inspired by a beautiful day when I took a walk in the park and noticed a nearby playground. As I watched the scene, I imagined toys scattered around a cozy home where a child lives, sunlight gently pouring through the window, creating a peaceful atmosphere:)

This image led me to compose a quiet, minimalistic drum and bass track with subtle jazz vibes. ⚽🧸

The creative process was truly enjoyable -I even returned to that park a few times to continue working on the track. I invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy this soothing tune with a cup of coffee and a good book:) ☕

‘Rainy Road' was inspired on a rainy day when I was sitting at a bus stop near a cafe. I listened to the sound of the rain, and the noise of buses and cars driving over the wet road, their wheels splashing the water.

I was captivated by the soft glow of headlights illuminating the road, so I took out my Macbook and started working right there at the bus stop. I recorded the sounds of the rain and the cars passing over the wet road, using these ambient sounds as the background for a calm liquid drum and bass track.

Personally, I loved the fact that I created this sketch on a rainy day at the bus stop:)

Hey that's cool, the number 25 is like repeated three times in the date and time.

First things first, I feel like I have to address this cause I've had people get the wrong idea, the title is not suppose to be a "pun" of the word "euphemism", but the song does touch on topics related to euphemism's.

This song in the most typical way to explain it is about letting the internet and social media influence how you act, think, and what you stress over. How there was so much constant feeding of propaganda, and news that someone like me, especially at the age of 15, did not need to be endorsed in.

The "person" I'm talking to in this song is me, cause what do you see when your phones shut off, your own reflection. I think this songs more of a statement to point out what could be better, rather then trying to deal and learn with it.
