JASQUIAT - Wild Times (Official Audio )

Jasquiat is a singer, songwriter, poet, model, social entrepreneur and cultural anthropologist. He represents a new wave of millennial creative entrepreneur hybrids focusing on representation and ownership. He was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts to a mother of Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latino heritage who immigrated to the US from The Bahamas as a teen, and a father of Native American and African heritage from Alabama. Jasquiat’s acumen includes modeling, fashion styling, mixed media art, creative activism and magazine publishing. His work has been published in Italian Vogue, Vogue, GQ India, Vogue Taiwan, Esquire, among others. 

Jasquiat began his process of creative exploration at a young age, inspired by a range of musical styles from vinyl records his parents would play. His household was filled with songs from legends such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Mahalia Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Gregory Isaacs. Brazilian icons such Sergio Mendes, Tim Maia, Jorge Ben Jor and African icons such as Mariam Makeba, Fela Kuti and Salif Keita exposed the young Jasquiat to international sounds and rhythms that stirred his soul. Latin icons such as Celia Cruz, Gran Combo, Buena Vista Social Club, and Silvio Rodriguez further inspired Jasquiat to write poetry and sing as a form of creative expression. His older brother also played a large role in curating music of the 90’s, with major influences from icons such as Tupac, Ms Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Usher, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Janet Jackson and Jay Z. 

Growing up in the highly academic environment of Cambridge, Massachusetts exposed Jasquiat to a world of possibility. In high school his studies specialized in a medicine-track. The student body at his public high school spoke an impressive 96 languages, and was a true melting pot of diversity and cultural acceptance. This exposed his mind to a wide palette of music and intercultural expression. His hard work and focus enabled him to receive a full scholarship to study pre-medicine at university. In seeking independence and creative fulfillment, a then 18 year old Jasquiat turned down the full scholarship for pre-medicine and decided to move across the country to Los Angeles to begin his career as an independent artist and entrepreneur. Not having any family or friends in his new home enabled Jasquiat to double down and focus on building his career independently and with strategy. 

In January 2020, Jasquiat released his debut single titled, Wild Times, a poetic reflection on the current state of the world, that serves as an anthem of empowerment and social change. Musically, Jasquiat seeks to blend melodic sounds of world, folk and soul with conscious lyricism. After completing an eighteen month, five continent self-funded world tour in promotion of social entrepreneurship and creative activism at the end of 2018, Jasquiat decided to reconnect with his Caribbean roots and move to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to begin working on his music career.  He hopes to leverage the power of music and culture to help make a positive impact on the island and abroad.
