John Salter makes breezy melodic tunes that put us in a reverie, all sheer joy on the dance floor and sweaty bodies intertwined under covers, car drives with the wind caressing one’s face, and deep red sunsets. It’s a balance – soulful but brisk, lush but alert. 

In 2019, he put out ‘Matta’ – a layer of waist-whining rhythm paired with Caribbean-esque vocals – as his debut single. ‘Matta’ did not only solidify him as an act worth feverish anticipation but also served as a fitting prelude to his debut E.P. that was released a year later: the crisp and groovy ‘Salt of the Earth’. 

On Salt of the Earth, he pulls from different stylistic corners: neo-soul, high life, and afrobeats; “There are so many styles that one is simply not enough”, John Salter – who calls his style ‘Afro-fusion’ – says. 

As Alté music continues its meteoric incline with young, audacious artists at its forefront, John Salter joins the exclusive crew whilst offering vulnerable penmanship swaddled in gorgeous melodies and backs it with versatile production. Here, unburdened, good vibes are the order of the day.
