Memphis has been known for barbecue for a long time. However, in recent years the tides have been changing on what the cities favorite food may be.

That was Terrance Coleman, the lead cook at Gus Fried Chicken in Memphis.

He has worked for two different chains making very similar foods but he touts the education and credits his knowledge of almost perfecting the art of frying chicken to his experience he has gotten from working at Gus.

In terms of fried chicken, Terrance is Gus Gordon Ramsey, who’s culinary school has been the kitchen at Gus. It was education that made him stay but the chicken that brought him to begin with.

Gus Fried Chicken is making it hard for residents and visitors to order bbq before chicken. The reason is the taste. Its juicy and spicy.

Notably, in 2022 Gus was ranked the number one chicken chain in America according the Daily Meal, a leading food website. Many of the other restaurants ranked were fast food.

It’s a choice. Choosing to eat fried chicken out of a paper bag, though greasy. People like Terrance make sure getting fast food at Gus, is an experience.

Shay Da Truth, born Gibraltar White, is an American hip-hop artist. Shay sets himself apart from other acts by using personal experience to help form songs that push the envelope. He can be described by most fans as a very versatile rapper going from slow to fast on almost any instrumental.

Originally from Memphis, TN a bit of Blues influences the feelings of motivation he gives. However, pieces of personality have been drawn from different regions for Shay. Styles from previous residences such as the Bronx in NYC, Baltimore, Florida, Mississippi and even California mix for a new style of music.

"I believe in music, the power of it all," says Da Truth. "It's one of few universal languages."

Keeping the universal aspect alive in his rhymes, Shay's main desire in music is to touch as many lives as possible in any way. He does it through freestyle, battle raps, ballads, and tracks that encourage having a good time.
