Oliver Hafenbauer is a quietly influential artist who, for many years, shaped not only his local Frankfurt scene but also the wider electronic underground through his work with the legendary Robert Johnson club. In 2019 he stepped away from his roles there and has made his own mark. He is an accomplished DJ who takes his expert selection of house, IDM, techno and electro all around Europe, and also runs his left-of-centre Die Orakel label where artists are free to serve up their most experimental sounds. 

This week he comes live and direct into your life with a timeless mix of club-ready beats that showcase exactly what he does so well. It's a balanced cross-section of robust four-four sounds that swerve fads and eschew any frills in favour of different textures and bass weights. Some are dark and heavy, others are more sleek and hypnotic, and the whole thing is held together with a sense of energy that makes the 60 minutes pass in an instant.

Helena Hauff is a German DJ and record producer based in Hamburg. She is known for her "stripped-down techno and electro tracks," that are recorded using strictly analog equipment and draws influences from acid house, EBM and industrial music.

1. Who or what inspires you to be your biggest, freest, most sensual self? Why?

The one and only Janet (Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty). I discovered her music at a pivotal time in my life and since then she has been a guiding light for me as both an artist and individual. She embodies all things sexy and sensual, including self-love ❤️ 

2. What were you channeling in this mix? What do you want to come across to your listeners?

I tried to translate a memorable night out - from the excitement and anticipation of getting ready to when you’re feeling yourself on the dance floor with that special someone and things get a little flirty / hot n’ heavy! I was channeling Chicago’s Smart Bar, a really important club to me that I’ve had the pleasure of playing a couple of times and shaped me into the DJ and music listener I am today. I wanted to showcase some house and electro, genres that inspire me and speak to what I think THROB is all about. 

3. Share a song that brings out the sexiness in you.

A couple of those songs made it into this mix but I wanna shout out “Baby Wants to Ride” by Frankie Knuckles feat. Jamie Principle!
