With sizzling electro, crunching breakbreats, frenzied footwork and much more in between, @nikki-nair records a jaw dropping productions mix for the Recognise series.

Atlanta-based Nikki Nair has made waves recently thanks to his sonically varied productions, released on labels such as Scuffed Recordings, Dirtybird and Gobstopper. For this month's Recognise interview, he chats to Katie Thomas about his route into music-making and DJing, the importance of respecting dance music history, and the push for a more diverse scene.

"Client_03 - Host Body Rule set. 

The Host Body is selected Through process of elimination to physically represent Client_03 in a performance setting. This is a commencalistic relationship in which Client_03 benefits and the host body feels nothing and has no recollection of the experience. 

Below is the the formula given to the host body as a base on which to elaborate for the duration of the performance. Whether or not the Host body can add have add value based on performative gestures is unclear. Future iterations may include limitations on the host body’s physical movement.

In Conclusion: 

The General progress measured through the collective appreciation of the Testbed as whole is greatly increasing. The current host body is satisfactory and will continue to serve as above with further experimentation and iteration on the process to ensure that its performance ability is viewed as <70% Favourable to the Testbed as a whole."

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Om Unit: My vegetable Garden, my studio setup, collaborations and more acid dub! Some club tracks too, also my teaching skills, my relationships and my health! 
Forthcoming music on Zam Zam and Acid Test as well as the dope collab ep w Martyn of course!

Martyn: Yep our second collab EP on 3024 called 'AJ^6', and a remix of Nosaj Thing's 'We Are' (last track of the mix)

Toyacoyah is an avid record collector who started DJing in the late 90s hosting a drum n’ bass radio show at the University of Oklahoma. After graduating she moved to Austin, Texas where she continued pushing the drum n’ bass sound at raves and clubs throughout Texas, Colorado, California, and even internationally in Brazil. While in Austin, she was one of the original resident DJs for Mental Note, a night dedicated to liquid funk + jazzy drum n’ bass at Plush nightclub. 

After a brief hiatus due to motherhood, she’s back playing the music she loves for folks across the Midwest and is now affiliated with Proper Chicago, Tao of Amen Productions, and Siren Project. She’s grateful to have played alongside many of her favorite DJs (Addison Groove, Andy C, Drumagick, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Random Movement, and Sam Binga) and looks forward to what the future holds! Expect to hear a full spectrum of bass sounds in her DJ sets including electro, breaks, juke, jungle, and footwork.
