Smear Test

This track was based around a Calendar tales story commissioned for an artist that was trying to capture a very bipolar nature of dark storytelling and childish wonder, because of this i used a high pitched arpeggio that I would normally associate with a sense of inquiry and wonder, however I decided that it sounded too structured and pieced together at first so changed this by adding a beat underneath the top-line melody to keep some sense of signature and then warped with with modulation, delay and EQ filtering to make the beat sound like walking on a boat, which is how the story has been told. To follow this further, I imported sound samples from condenser microphones left deep under oceanic water and stormy winds. This was inspired by the nautical nature of my artists' commission. The artist and I had two meetings over the course of the project so that we could see each others work progressing. through this we were able to streamline the writing process to achieve a result that fit the separate briefs we received.
