Goddamn, did it really take me two years to finish this track? Seems so. 

Started in April 2023 with a highly-treated, noisy, pumping sample from Toby Schay. Bass from Elka, Melody from the ever amazing S&A Choreographs with Arturias Fragments. The breakdown section came from a failed attempt to extract a melody of the original sample.

"....A scene that starts off sensual and lingering slowly gets out of hand. Before I started composing the music I researched story of Sleeping Beauty and the versions it originated from. I found some interesting concept in psychoanalytical interpretations of the story and its renditions across the centuries, that helped me to make internal sense of a transition from a sensual to a violent mood.

"....A nostalgic dream of a past when things were simple, haunted by a present in which things are definitely not as simple as they once were. Is blissful unawareness something to ever wish for? Inspired by my time in a studio on Izu Peninsula, Japan, where I was invited by The Upbeats. I got a chance to use some very nostalgic equipment there: a very old and crackly Roland SH-101 synth arpeggiating into an equally old and dusty RE-201 tape delay.

"....A decidedly lazy daydream offering an idyllic but temporary respite. It echoes an inversion of the main theme in “Overcome” during the more dramatic middle section. I didn’t realize I used the same recording twice until much later. When I noticed, I had to put both uses together in the tracklist!

"....And here, finally, our protagonist finds the way to release all her inner struggles. After a long and epic struggle, it all has to come out. I like to think of the two kickdrums as the princess punching her negative energy out, and the crazy winding synths that follow the punches are the energy flowing out. This is the only scene in which I thought composing with orchestral sounds was appropriate, I kept that box of tricks all the way until the very end!
