When the world stopped I fell in love in Portland.

We were set to release my first single that was followed by an entire but never completed project written via zoom when the world shut down. 12 months passed and suddenly I found myself back in LA and in the same room I made my first breakthrough as a songwriter, but now everything had changed because I had changed. 

When I came back to LA after my year-long escape, we attempted to finish the original single but were interrupted by construction happening right above us. While taking a writing break, I decided to not take a break at all and write over a beat someone sent me the week before while my producer made us dinner. Nothing came of it, except for 20 seconds of mixed leftover frustration and wanting to mend my broken heart the only way I knew how. 

We had dinner and the 20 seconds were shortly forgotten. The next day, my producer accidentally opened the 20 second file from the night before, while trying to open the original single and the rest was history. It was the first and only song we ever finished without hesitation or contemplation and the only song that has ever been able to heal me like nothing has before. Guilty was able to give me the power I’d been searching for but was too afraid to find and all I hope is that it does the same for whoever listens to it.

Guilty (Single)

Originally from Lima, Peru, and now based in Los Angeles, VANIA is a self-taught music producer and singer-songwriter. Her story starts with 10-year-old VANIA and her guitar, using the living room as her stage to perform early 2000s pop songs for her parents, though she didn't speak a word of English. Over the years, her sound has been inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, SZA, and Lianne La Havas, ultimately guiding her to solidify her distinctive sound. VANIA combines lush vocal harmonies with Latin-infused, Alternative, and R&B elements to embody a fresh new voice in Alternative R&B. Showcasing her multi-faceted artistic abilities, VANIA writes, co-produces, and performs all of her music. Solidifying her entrance to the esteemed R&B world,  in 2019 VANIA took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Original Song in a Drama Series. VANIA's debut EP 'You On Vinyl,' which she co-produced and penned herself, is slated for release in Spring 2024. This project beautifully captures the essence of journeying through nostalgic memories, akin to flipping through the tracks of an old vinyl record, transporting listeners through time. By crafting and sharing music that delicately pulls at the heartstrings of listeners, evoking a blend of painful familiarity and soothing comfort, VANIA is positioning herself to carve out her unique path and make an unignorable mark at the crossroad of Alternative, Latin-Fusion, and R&B spaces.
