Rings Around Saturn (aka Rory McPike, Dan White) presents six minutes of bottomless rave as arpeggiating bass synths suggest 303s without ever going full acid – the bass tone growls for the entirety of the track while syncopated drip drop synths provide the counter melody. Blasts of white noise remind of nightclub smoke machines and alongside manipulated bird calls contributes to the humidity and density of the tracks overall soundscape.

Tell us about yourself, your name, how old are you, where are you from?

We are "CYK TOKYO",house music collective, playing B2B all together, making party with overseas artists, of course from Tokyo!

How did you get into music?

Everyone each has their own favorite artists, naturally we had come to go to club, so it was meant to be that we've met.

How would you describe the electronic music scene in your city?
Tokyo has many legendary DJs, but young generations guys liven up local scene, make the music and organize some party like us!

Who and/or what inspires you?

Mainly we are influenced by artists who play together in our party.
We book some DJs from around the world, so it follows that we are inspired from all over the world!

Under the glow of the moonlight there was a haphazard creature who flew with a sense of chaotic disarray. It buzzed and whizzed between the flickering lights in the hope that it might find some safe place to land amidst the outback. It was a nocturnal fly and lived only for the evening hours in which it might find the glimmering buzz of electrics and the whirring machines. It was drawn to the warmth like some sort of strange, abrupt thermal magnet, small and riotous. 

Brussels-based label Basic Moves return with a collection of tracks from Circadian Rhythms AKA DJ Deg, that charts music the Belgian producer crafted between 1989 and 1994. The six tracks represent his own personal take on the sounds of his NYC and Chicago house heroes at the time; think proto-house and hazy techno. Basic Moves have unearthed these dusty ninetees gems and pressed them on a special double LP for your listening pleasure...

PREMIERE: Circadian Rhythms - Nocturnal Fly [Basic Moves]

Joe Dickey, aka Body Copy, is a DJ/Producer who moved to Nashville in 2014 to continue his career as a touring and session bass player. A desire to find a creative outlet for exploring his love of music production and electronic dance music led Dickey to start the Body Copy project in 2017. He has since self-released a number of EPs, created his own label (Body Cuts), hosted several parties in Nashville, and performed internationally as a DJ. Body Cuts focuses on dynamic dance music that is rooted in the classic tradition of house and techno while remaining forward thinking and open to various styles of electronic dance music. ‘Spirit Dance’ sees Joe invite remixes from Yorkshire based producer and Phantasy, Hypercolour and Wolf Music artist James Welsh, in addition to Amsterdam’s Timothy Clerkin and Moscow’s Baltimore Chop.

‘Spirit Dance’ kicks things off with shooting acid stabs and muffled percussion floating around vocal samples from several old recordings of revival preachers before James Welsh continues with alleviating melodies, angelic pads harmonising with the inspiriting vocals throughout.

Timothy Clerkin’s remix of ‘Spirit Dance’ is a club-ready cut that lays focus on uplifting 303 synths spiralling with glistening leads and euphoric atmospheres before Baltimore Chop offers up an irresistible interpretation featuring reverberating bass grooves and laid-back rhythms in this nostalgic deep house track. ‘The Whys and Hows’ deliciously rounds off the EP with stabbing synths, infectious sweeps and rhythmic percussion keeping the energy flowing.

Portable’s magical ‘This Horizon’ sees its release on the producer’s own Khoikhoi Records imprint on 14th February which is taken from his forthcoming Album 'The Transit Of Mercury' which is already getting the nod from Laurent Garnier, Honey Dijon, Ben UFO & Motor City Drum Ensemble, the package includes variations by the South African’s Bodycode alias, duo Bergemeann & Legget as well as a version from Johannesburg producer Sound of Xee.

While the original is a whirlwind of poignant vocals, floating melodies entwined in a tight leftfield house groove, Bergemann & Legget’s cleverly strips back, delving in the intensity of the single. It really is a testament to Portable’s ability to build an unsettling sense of beauty.

Sound of Xee makes his mark with a slow-building, progressive, rolling take, slipping into its own frenzy of percussion – a Khoikhoi mainstay at the forefront of South African electronic music in full force right here.

And finally, Portable’s own Bodycode moniker leads ‘This Horizon’ further into club territory with the seriously good ‘Bellycloud’ remix – jutting keys and 4x4 energy ending things in a place of all-out party.
