this is chapter 23 in a series of mixes called 'trust me i was there'. its been a while since i last uploaded a mix - reminds me of when i got my first job (aged 14, in canning town) where i was nicknamed 'arthur' cos i only ever did 'alf a' job. 
its been a great year, i've been working on lots of new music and hanging out with my kids lots, which is pretty much perfect... but i'll try to be a bit more consistent with these mixes.

the music in this mix, and the previous ones are the tracks that were played in the clubs i was playing and raving at, and on the radio stations i was on. in '93 i think i was on format fm with my dj partner swift - with a load of other great characters.

just listening back to this mix - when i heard 'Johnny Jungle' it took me back to a specific moment... I used to go Boogie Times as often as i could, and sometimes you'd catch Hype behind the counter scratching, which was a big deal cos we all used to check him on pulse, but the day that i remember really clearly was when i was in the shop with a few other punters and Pascal walked in and went through to the Office. Must be the same time that Johnny Jungle was about, and the whole place went quiet, and we were all like 'wow, you know who that was who just walked through? it was PASCAL'. I doubt many people realise how influential he was, or that he helped G start headz, all the old face recs stuff. what a dappa.

After the well-received “Return 01” for the Bonzai label, Kay Barton returns with the MacroGod EP on Emerald & Doreen Records. 

The North German producer started DJ’ing in 1997 after a several years in the studio and followed the rapidly developing techno scene in Germany and abroad. Eventually, Kay worked for a record label, some radio stations, and regularly hosted numerous events dedicated to electronic music in different locations around the Rhine-Main area. After releases under different artist names Kay now focuses on straight techno and tech house under his given name, Kay Barton.

With the MacroGod EP, Kay combines rough sawtooth sounds and TB-303 waves and rounds things out with four-to-the-floor techno beats. Besides the two original mixes of “Oh God“ and “Macrowave“ the EP features a remix each from Berlin’s techno godfathers, Dr. Motte and Mijk van Dijk.


Dr. Motte — founder of legendary Love Parade in Berlin and as well as the Praxxiz label — has countless projects and releases during the past 30 years. He's shaped an entire culture as an ambassador for electronic music worldwide. His remix of “Macrowave” is a straight-up sexy techno underground track featuring the 303 from the original mix as its main element.

Mijk van Dijk's history also reaches nearly 30 years. As a DJ and live under the name Microglobe, he’s performed at countless clubs and events all over the world and is an important part of the electronic music movement. With his version of "Oh God" van Dijk takes the dance floor into a world of synth melodies and his own distinctive sonic character.

Ian Void presents THE OUTPOST - April 2020

I am a DJ and Producer that has been involved in the UK techno scene for over 20 years, not only as a DJ and a Producer but as the promoter of one of the UK's Finest Underground techno nights of the nineties and early noughties.

My Uncompromising productions earned me acclaim in the late nineties, with a style that was aimed directly at the harder end of the techno spectrum. My Dj sets have been hi-octane mixes encompassing many genre's that can sustain a direct but diverse approach sometimes surprising crowds with breakbeats, vocals and rave anthems whist maintaining that locomotive techno groove, My sets that have won me both acclaim and awards in the past as the best DJ at some of the large European festivals. 

I ran the hugely successful underground Techno club 'Geushky' from the early 90's until 2003 & headed up the labels Geushky Recordings and later, Intravenous Cuts. I  have DJ'ed in over 30 countries, remixed some great artists and my tracks have appeared on compilations from Carl Cox and Mauro Picotto to name just two.
