Josh Teed is a versatile, classically trained, and technical musician. He picked up the violin at the tender age of 3 years old, going on to win the Florida Fiddle Championship at 9. Upon discovering electronic music, he began exploring his talents further and intertwining them with his newfound interest. His productions pay tribute to some of his electronic influences such as Charlesthefirst, CloZee and Govinda while still remaining unique and properly showcasing his vast expertise in instrumentalism. His live sets incorporate violin, didgeridoo, and live analog synthesis overlaid on top of every element of a great DJ set, keeping listeners engaged and entranced for every second he has the stage. In June of 2020 Josh launched the Taiga Collective, a nonprofit label centered around melodic and world bass music. Taiga Collective provides an avenue for talented, like minded musicians to release their music with all profits going to wildlife conservation. Although a lot has changed, Josh still keeps the same vision he started out with. Josh Teed aims to push the envelope and break the seams between bass music and live instrumentation, blending the two effortlessly to take listeners on a tangible, palpable journey through an eclectic variety of soundscapes and grooves. The age of sonic medicine continues to unfold in the shape of Poranguí and Liquid Bloom’s landmark curative music collection, ‘Kuya Sessions: Cura.’ Created as an aural container for the cutting-edge frontiers of psychedelic-assisted therapy, this extrasensory journey invites listeners to cross the threshold into the realm of shadow and light, uniting the principles of indigenous wisdom, plant medicine, and holistic psychology with the world-bridging potential of cinematic sound design.

Designed for Kuya, a state-of-the-art health clinic in Austin, TX that is incorporating paradigm-shifting therapeutics, integrative psychiatry, and regenerative medicine into a visionary approach to trauma processing and healing, ‘Cura’ offers seekers a soundtrack for their journeys toward rebalancing, and is now lovingly shared with listeners everywhere on behalf of Kuya and producers Amani Friend and Poranguí.

Embedded with the sonic signature of the world’s oldest musical lineages and enhanced with field recordings and samples from across the globe, ‘Kuya Sessions: Cura’ is best experienced in its “Journey Mix” format, where the boundaries between movements are as ephemeral as the voyage itself. In preparation for embarking on this ritualistic path, one is invited to create an environment for inner-exploration with the help of a quiet and darkroom, headphones, an eye mask, and an intention of healing and discovery. 

The first installment in this four-part release series, ‘Cura’ draws upon a grounding array of instruments, vocalizations, and therapeutic musical stylings while showcasing Poranguí and Amani Friend’s tenacity for surreal, multi-dimensional sound. Distilled from the intention of providing listeners a path toward healing and a safe space from which to embark on that odyssey, ‘Kuya Sessions: Cura’ will continue to reveal itself with each subsequent visit for all who desire its therapeutic guidance.

Calling, out July 29th on Gravitas Recordings, is a beautiful journey through the Comisar sound and unique style of bass music.  He creates organic texture and a special atmosphere to everything he touches, and is able to make heavy bass tracks while not overpowering and keeping its beauty.  Comisar draws inspiration from nature, lush atmosphere, and psychedelic bass to transport the listener into a different world.  This EP is no different and truly brings out his top-tier production and features remixes from a stacked roster of other bass artists hand selected by Comisar.  Each track tells its own story and has a very special place in the EP, a true journey through sound.

“Calling” kicks off the EP with captivating nature sounds and drippy bass sound design, building into a very rewarding glitchy drop recreating the atmosphere in a new heavier way.  “River” continues the same energy as before painting a visual river with his textures and field recordings, accompanied by subtle piano and amazing sound design with bass and lush synths.  “Deep Six” pulls back with catchy vocal chops and synth stabs, building into something much bigger with heavier bass and a groove that is hard not to move to.  “Tamarack” builds off this energy and truly pulls all the previous ideas together into a heavier and perfect end to his original tracks on the EP.  “Calling” (Orenda Remix) takes the track and creates a heavier bass idea out of the beautiful melodies and atmosphere without overtaking the vibe of the original.  “River” (Bass Temple Remix)  is another heavier take off of the Comisar original, building on top of the lush textures created in a different way.  “Deep Six” (Phurn Remix) ends the EP in a softer and perfect blend, creating an unreal atmosphere with synths, vocal chops and bass that leaves the listener needing more.  Each remix feels like a call and response to the original, playing off the heavier and softer vibes that Comisar wanted to explore in different ways.
