Since slipping out on Leng last year, Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy’s first collaboration with singer/songwriter David Harks, ‘Susta’, has become a much-played modern Balearic classic, with DJs and listeners alike responding to the track’s attractive blend of sun-kissed nu-disco instrumentation, warming melodies and deliciously evocative lead vocals from Jaanika Leino AKA JaneLy.

Now the track returns for 2021 in the shape of two superb new remixes from Chicagoan deep house legend Ron Trent, who four years ago delivered similarly ear-catching revisions of Mudd and Pollard’s ‘Far Away’ as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations for Murphy’s Claremont 56 label.

As you’d expect given Trent’s impeccable track record over the last three decades, both revisions are stunning. He begins by eking every last ounce of soul from Leino’s brilliant vocal on a remix that’s warming, deep and luscious. Combining elements of Murphy and Harks’ colourful, synth-heavy original mix – including the lusciously tactile bassline and boogie-style synth flourishes – with his own yearning chords, hand percussion sounds and a shuffling, samba-tinged house beat, Trent re-imagines ‘Susta’ as a future vocal deep house classic. Melodious, musically intricate, infectious and summery, it’s a remix for the ages.

It comes accompanied by a Dub Mix that successfully shows off the intricacy of Trent’s production and additional instrumentation while keeping both eyes firmly on the dancefloor. Beginning with effects-laden synth sounds reminiscent of the mid-‘80s proto-house classics by Paul Simpson, Winston Jones and Boyd Jarvis, the mix sees Trent skilfully add selected snippets of Leino’s lead vocal to a backing track rich in delay-laden synthesizer sounds, reverb-rich chords, echoing percussion hits and chords so warming they feel like a late-night, loved-up bear hug for your ears. Like the A-side vocal version, Trent’s dub is breath-taking and spine-tingling in equal measure.

After a series of singles and his 2020 album ‘Sickla’, Opolopo returns to Local Talk with a rework collection where he was given free reign, to 'tweak' his personal faves from the Local Talk vaults. Over these 10 tracks, Opolopo tweaks cuts from Jamie 3:26 & Masalo, the late great Soulphiction, Kiko Navarro, DirtyTwo and Soul Renegades. As always, the soul is ever-present. Musically you'll find it all, from deep house, to disco, to jazzy beats and electronica. Opolopo lays down his trademark sound and infectious grooves, with additional production tweaks and arrangements to deliver this monster package.

 Two of Ibadan's usual suspects team up for one of the labels greatest moments.

Kerri Chandler and Jerome Sydenham bring an exceptional House flavor to NYC Band, The System. They've added new flavor with fresh and innovative production techniques to one of NYC most popular Synth/Pop outfits. 'You're In My System' is clear proof why. Kerri steps in to remix the track with four new versions.

The A1, is the bearer of the You’re In My System (Atmospheric Vocal). A catchy Rhodes melody enters you into the system of what is soon to be taken over by a heartfelt Garage style male vocal.

The A2, is a tried and true dub version of the original. However, the lack of vocals only puts more focus on the escalating and driving horn section.

B1 gets bi-lingual for all our Latinos. "Estas en mi sistema!"

Wrapping up this release on the B2, is Kerri's pure DJ version. Fully equipping, You’re In My System with juicy 909 hats and crackling snares while adding more emphasis to the bass line. An extended breakdown also creates an added element of suspense.

This is New York House at its best. Feel good club music that puts a smile on your face and a little swing in your hips.

Jerome and Dennis are back with all new mixes of their stone cold classic, 'Timbuktu'.

'Timbuktu' sees long-time associates Ferrer and Sydenham going out with some techy house flavors on Ibadan, with a solid groove joined by a sublime synth stab and some great chant snippets, while a driving bassline and great percussion elements fatten out the track nicely. Two mixes here, and there's really nothing to choose between them, so we'll let you decide your favorite.

Ciro Blazevic debuts on WAREBLUES with a four-track EP full of groove from Córdoba, a city that never ceases to produce great talents. He opens with "Feel The Piano", a classic house poem with a shaky beat, stabs and classic vocals. It's followed by "Slapp" with deep pads, heavy bass and a raw sound. Muhé" takes the spotlight on the B-side with a hypnotic groove and piano that runs through every corner of the track, living up to the name of the EP. Finally, "Jamming" showcases Ciro's influences from genres such as jazz and funk

A seminal productions of the enigmatic tag team of Sydenham & Ferrer.

Ace A&R meets super producer for one of their most organic releases to date, with ‘Kò Kò Part 1’.
Jerome and Dennis showcase their love for fine-tuned percussion with the clangin' and bangin' 'Kò Kò Part 1'. Together with Dominique Kanza and Doug Hinrichs on guitar and percussion respectively, they combine atmospheres of tribal and indigenous spirits with an unmatched fluidness. A perfect way to spice up a straight House set.

With the exception of a kick drum, the, ‘DJ Beat’ version is made up of completely organic percussion, shakers and drums. A jam session that could have found it self taking place hundreds of years ago on the Island of Hispaniola or on the beaches of Bahia.

Something special always seems to arise when these two join forces. Their good friendship and understanding of music always seems to translate into special tracks with a polished mature, yet dance floor ready sound.

 The dream team of Ferrer and Sydenham fabricate yet another seminal track.

Ferrer and Sydenham have been consistently knocking out superb stuff on Jerome’s Ibadan label for years. 'Sandcastles' keeps the streak going.

The original 'Sandcastles' - with its sublime piano line coming into its own late in the mix after a lengthy lead in of subtle percussion, throbbing bass drums and stellar synth play. A warm and lush track that utilizes building beats that emit a piano line and finally a wall of synth strings, round this track off perfectly.

Pressed up the same on both sides, as if he knew this one would get an extra amount of play. A confidence that can be traced back through the numerous amounts of seminal releases this man has had a watchful eye over.

If there was an essential Ibadan release – and an argument can be made for many of them in some form or another – this would certainly be high up on the list.
