In this edition of Select, we spotlight Vegie, a genre-blurring DJ whose curiosity and obsession with sound have made him one to watch in the region’s leftfield scene. Known for his fearless blends and emotional unpredictability, his sets pull from bass-heavy UK club cuts, lo-fi rhythms, and dancefloor catharsis.

Vegie’s musical journey started in his early teens, experimenting with mashups on a dusty family desktop. With a hand-me-down mixer passed from his father, also a DJ, he began digging through genres with an obsessive edge, developing a sound that refuses to stay in one place for too long.

For this SceneNoise mix, Vegie delivers a heavy, rhythm-charged session packed with sharp percussion, sub-loaded grooves, and a relentless underground energy. It’s a fast, fun, and raw listen, an honest snapshot of the tracks currently driving his sets. Exposed to underground music by his older brother, DJ & Designer Khaled Alammary, Baloo’s music is tinged with jazz, disco, funk, soul, and new wave. He’s held residencies in Dubai, Bahrain, and most recently in Saudi Arabia, with performances all over the world including Beirut, Abu Dhabi, Amsterdam, Mykonos, London, New York, Washington DC, Miami, and Boston.

Baloo, a founding partner at 9SS Creative and 9SICKSICK - Saudi design and lifestyle brands - developed the concept, brand identity and experience for MDL Beast, the music, art and culture brand, the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia, and the largest festival in the Middle East.

As always it's great to connect from music heads all around the world. Saudi DJ Baloo has been playing music since the mid 90s, inspired by his older brother, Khaled’s journey into house music. Finding his roots in late the 90s east coast US Underground house scene which has gone onto influence him ever since. Baloo always brings that deep, dirty groove tinged vibe laced with disco, tech, and funk notes. Thanks for the mix, it's superb.
