My setting of the John Clare poem "God looks on nature with a glorious eye" sung by Novaura, conducted by Harry Bradford as part of the Clare Contemporary Lates Series - Clare College Chapel, Cambridge - 3rd February 2016.

The soprano melody for the words "God looks on Nature" shares characteristics with the chant Conditor alme siderum - "creator of the stars of night".


God looks on nature with a glorious eye 
And blesses all creation with the sun 
Its drapery of green and brown earth ocean lie 
In morning as Creation just begun 
That saffron east foretells the rising sun 
And who can look upon that majesty 
Of light brightness and splendour nor feel won 
With love of him whose bright all seeing eye 
Feeds the days light with Immortality.
