"Nestled beside the Straits of Magellan in Chilean Patagonia, the old port city of Punta Arenas gives rise to romantic reveries about bygone times and journeys of adventure, even for the people who live there. We learned this from the band Icarus Gasoline whose dreamy stoner rock is yet another fantastical thing arising from Punta Arenas.

Though now based in Santiago, the Chilean quartet draws inspiration in many different ways from their isolated hometown. We’re delighted to call them Artist of the Week because it means we got to learn more about their heavy psychedelic vision."

"Al parecer todo paraje desértico, frío, magallánico en éste caso, parece ser el predilecto para forjar el sonido Stoner. Icarus es un cuarteto proveniente de Punta Arenas, que reside en Santiago.

Qué hacen; entregar un sonido pastoso, rasgado, un stoner del bueno. Y así se incorporan en la lista de las grandes bandas nacionales que se manejan en éste subgénero del rock, con marcadas influencias psicodélicas que a ratos muestra en sus canciones un fiel reflejo de sensaciones estado-alteradas.

No quedan muchas calificaciones o más aún entrometerse en tratar de plasmar en una breve reseña lo que Icarus logra en un disco de larga duración."

"Formed in Punta Arenas, Chile, the southern most city of the South American continent; the Icarus Gasoline foursome quickly moved to Santiago once their dry icy sound had been perfected. They sound like a cold desert morning waking to a rising sun promising windy heat and shimmering air. 

On their second effort from 2010 called Lo Desaparecido they perfect the slow desolate sound we know from Kyuss. And they are rarely tempted to also explore the faster heavier sound of said band; but mostly the descriptive floating tunes that transport your soul and move your mind into uncharted territories. It is absolutely impressive the way the guitars draw out the scenery across a slow bopping bass and expert leisurely drumming. And then there are the vocals; which are absolutely fitting for the music, hypnotic by default and make you thank the heavens for the Spanish language. 

Lo Desaparecido holds that weird middle ground between limitless and limited. Like something disappearing right before your very eyes. Espejismo mágico!"
