Don Rimini joins forces with his Jackin Trax alter-ego for a funk-infused jackin’ techno five-tracker.

French-born, Belgium-based Don Rimini/Jackin Trax’s split personality collaboration on Rekids’ Rekids Special Projects imprint aptly focuses on jacking techno marked by effective vocal sampling and layers of immaculate groove.

Bunkaball label owner Don Rimini kicks things off with ‘Ruthless Boogie’, a four-to-the-floor burner featuring hip-hop verses and soulful harmonizations. The ‘Jack In The Box’ EP is a true display of funk, ‘Booty Ride’ picking up the pace through driving rhythm and a hooky sample while ‘Get-O-Matic’ enters with additional cut-up vocals and weighty piano stabs. ‘On The Floor’ keeps the dancefloor moving with tumbling drums and more hypnotic sampling before ‘Gotcha!’ brings distorted bleeps, energetic rides and punchy snares to close out the EP.

Rekids welcomes HUD with the ‘Sugar’ single, remixed by Mark Broom and DJ Deep. 

Unearthed by Radio Slave via a 2022 Ricardo Villalobos set, UK artist HUD lands on the celebrated Rekids imprint with ‘Sugar’, alongside remixes from scene legends Mark Broom and DJ Deep. HUD’s ‘Sugar’ is a high-energy breakbeat track assured to set the dancefloor alight on every occasion, rife with lush piano melodies, a driving bassline and a cheeky, earworm vocal. 

“SUGAR was my attempt to recreate some of the party-style big breaks from around the time of the millennium. Fingerlickin Records was a favourite at the time, and DJs such as Stanton Warriors, Rennie Pilgrem, and Plump DJs were acts I would often make the effort to see.” - HUD 

Reimagining the track first is Rekids regular Mark Broom, infusing ‘Sugar’ with a dose of his mutated battle breaks, turning up the flange on the drums and amplifying its gorgeous piano topline. This is before DJ Deep closes the record with a big party anthem remix, complete with tripped-out vocal chops and infectious techno rhythm.

Canadian label Echo Locations enlists Berlin-based producer Svedstorm to explore the stylistic depths of uptempo dub techno with "The City Where It's Always Night."

Originally from Copenhagen, it was here that Svedstorm was introduced to dub techno at an early age through artists like Lulu Rouge and the legendary Echocord label. Although he's produced different genres under various aliases in the past, the groovy melancholia of dub techno has continued calling to him.

On "The City Where It’s Always Night," he presents three different flavours of his beloved genre along with a remix of the title track by fellow Berliner Volpe.

"Neep Noop" highlights the genre's affinity for subtlety and sparseness. A progression of muted bells and echoing synth stabs places the emphasis on the track's low bassline, making this an offering primed for big bass bins and intimate settings.

"On Land" explores the melodic side of dub techno with layers of harmonizing instrumentation. Atmospheric background melodies and fleeting pulses of synthesized sounds come together with bouncy hi-hats and a deep kick to create a warm and hypnotic soundscape.

"The City Where It’s Always Night" presents a gritty take on the genre with raw kicks and snares reminiscent of garage. This addictive beat remains the focal point of the track as delayed chords weave in and out, creating a charged atmosphere of minimalism and serenity.

Volpe takes the title track in a more stripped-down and housey direction, opting for a slower tempo and a deep organic bassline. The echoing chords are stretched further apart, creating a sense of spaciousness over the driving force of crisp hi-hats.
