Kurdistan Waltz is the last track and first single off of IDDQD's 2022 album 'Hometown'.
In 2012 I travelled to Kurdistan with Filmmaker Metin Çetin as a field recordist. This song was born out of an improvisation session there.

Recently it was brought to my attention that you can download the stems of this track from Alt-J's Souncloud, so I thought I try my hand at a little remix. Everything you hear here exists in the original track. I have added nothing, merely adjusted things here and there :)

 On November 11th 2013, I lost two of my oldest and closest friends, Arash and Soroush Farazmand, along with the incredibly talented Ali Eskandarian, in a tragic shooting which took place in New York City. I never got a chance to say goodbye, nor would I have found the words to do so had I the chance.
 Instead, This is my little way of paying a belated tribute to my old bandmates, Treasured friends, Soul-mates in music, and above all, amazing human beings. 
 The artwork for this track has been made by my great friend, the talented Arman Farrinnia.

A Million Dead Iraqis

Recorded live to an interpretive dance performance commemorating the Soma Mining Disaster in Turkey in May 2014. A series of sounds recorded on a Timpani are looped and stacked on top of each other onto two separate samplers, which are then manipulated separately to create natural flanging and other modulation effects. The piece is meant to instill a sense of claustrophobia and the horror of being buried alive in the listener.

Soma

The Second Track from 'The Last Year On Earth', a concept album by IDDQD. The Last Year On Earth tells the story of 'Icarus', A spaceship pilot and one of the few remaining humans on earth. Humans have destroyed the planet and gone near extinction in the process. He is tasked with finding a new habitable planet but he begins to question whether humanity deserves to live.

I was standing on a mountain
staring into the void
This journey felt so long
but now I'm massless, propagating into space

Dabbling in synths and polyrhythms. There's a 3/8 against a 5/8 against a 7/8 and a backbeat of 6/8, which I'm quite fond of.

IDDQD was founded in 2011 as a collaborative music project in Istanbul, Turkey by Iranian multi-instrumentalist/producer, Arya Afshar. IDDQD released a number of singles from 2011 to 2016, before releasing its debut album 'Last Year on Earth' in 2017. The second album 'Mutations' was released in 2020. The style has changed over the years, but can be defined as Alternative/Psychedelic Rock with Eastern rhythms, and heavily influenced by the likes of Mars Volta, Gogo Penguin, Snarky Puppy, Physics House Band, Dredg, and Tool.
