Two years after ‘Embolism EP’ the andalusian leaves us with a two track single featuring ‘Mental Lash’ and a VIP version of ‘Embolism’. 

Much water has flowed since then for this young artist, for example, some releases on labels like Fuck About!, Black Monsta or the freebie platform Talayotik Recordings. For the label it’s been more than 16 references if we add both nationals and internationals artists in the catalog.

Welcoming PhoroptiC back once again since his last release with us which was a free download. Mario Herbst is an Austrian, 30 year old producer and DJ. Amongst releasing with us here at Identity, he’s taken reigns at Pick ’n’ Mix, Sub-Division Recordings & more. In recent times inspiration comes from the likes of :- Division, Waeys and Levela but when he started producing 10 years ago, inspiration came in the form of ‘Pendulum’ which lead to the pursuit of what we are watching today

This release is set to shock sets throughout its release and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do, also featuring a remix from DIS:TURBED which is deep to the core.

What with drum & bass becoming ever more international, at Lifestyle we wanted to champion this fact and help shine a spotlight on the growing scenes outside of the UK. After last years landmark ‘Australian Connection LP’ we have turned our attention slightly closer to home, this time having organised the ‘Belgian Connection LP’. 

Belgium is country that has been synonymous with a strong rise in dnb in recent times, and we felt this country was the perfect place to launch the next release in our ‘Connection’ series. 

The producers from the land of beer and chocolate have really delivered, showcasing an all-round album with a little bit of something for everyone. Liquid, Half-time, Neuro, Tech, Rollers, whatever you want to call it, this release has it… 

We see this as another real defining moment for us as a label and Belgian drum & bass, and we couldn’t be prouder to be releasing this with our friends from just across the channel.

Koax, hailing from Bristol UK, is set to make his second appearance on FUCK ABOUT! with this 2 track heater, which has already received support from the likes of Amoss, Xtrah & been played by Missledz on BBC Radio 1.

With previous releases on a number of different labels, including Cyberfunk, Boey Audio and Four Corners Music, Koax presents us with dark, heavy grooves that we cant help but stomp to!

‘Afflicted’ is a deep and murky stepper, beginning ominously and evolving to staggered crunchy drums. Tensions rise and build; This will do damage. The hit is a wall of bass that envelops you and throws you around the room, punching you in-between the eyes with each weighty stab, leaving you now crying and beaten up on the floor. Sorry, not sorry.
‘Event Horizon’ sees Koax collaborate with another emerging producer, ‘Scann’, who also has previous releases on Cyberfunk. Winding glitchy vocal snippets and washy noises climax by dropping into pure funky bass and weighty drums. With almost a laidback feel, this captures the true Bristol vibe and makes it all about the dance.

One of the few artists on the drum and bass circuit to have really crafted his (yes solo now!) own sound from scratch has to be Jam Thieves and this killer 5 track EP presented by Serial Killaz is certainly testament to the ability to be both instantly recognisable and bloody good at the same time.

The ‘Sativa’ EP kicks your block off straight away with menacing chords and drums typical of this level of production. You will notice little cheeky stabs and effects all over the place which no doubt adds to the tension the title track creates plus that ever so wobbling bassline.

‘Paranoia’.. You what mate? Nah, not us. The ‘Simon Says’ sample is pretty god damn demanding here, just make sure you’re not following an MCs request to “sit down, sit down, sit doooooown’ during the drop. Some grand piano licks run forward into ‘Bizness’, complimented by some more snazzy breakbeats and a grotty old bassline with just a touch of distortion making it that perfect accessory to whatever Jam Thieves gets up to under the cover of darkness. ‘Heavy Duty’ has a kind of Robot Wars vibe going on so if you’re still into that kind of thing, it’s the perfect combination of mental destruction and flaming swords but in a musical form. 

Closing the doors on the EP, Jam Thieves really went to town with ‘Situation’ and if you really want to appreciate the levels to this track, it’s very important to use some good monitors and a whopping great sub. We don’t mean a 10” either, save that for your pop and bass melodies. Check the vocal sample too while you’re at it.
