IDE003 - Remixes by rRoxymore, Yhdessa, Nkisi & JIJU (Snippets)

‘Cycles & Causality’ contains two tracks by TRIGGER that stretch over side A and B. Its musical expression lives somewhere between club music, ambient and musique concrète but refuses to entirely fall into any of these categories - equally fitting on the dance-floor as in in-depth listening sessions at home.

TRIGGER is an audiovisual collaboration between musician/composer Stephan Meidell [NO] and Blank Blank Film (Petri Henriksson [FI] and Carlos Vasques [CO]). Although the music on the resulting release is made by Meidell himself.
‘Cycles & Causality’ is released both digitally and on vinyl – accompanied by a beautiful 16-page booklet with photos from the live performances of this project and scans of the images produced in that process. The release thus becomes an extension of Meidell's sound universe, making it a complete package and must-have for any collector and adventurous DJ.

The first track 'FLUTTER' is an exhilarating, energetic bomb with an engaging, underlying arpeggiated structure on a robotic zither throughout the 16-minute track. It creates an uplifting and open atmosphere, where the voluminous sonic landscape gives an orchestral feel. This track is an all-out braindance! It allows you to shift focus between the many layers of sound and frequently reveals new intriguing compositional ideas and textures. A choir of 24 canary birds adds lightful and lively melodic voices to the composition.

The second track ‘UNDULATION’ on side B and has a more constant pulse and evocative character to it. An extensive repertoire of small acoustic sounds and textures makes out a playful and hypnotic sonic environment that keeps the listener alert and interested during the 15 and a half minutes that make up side B. The multi-layering of sounds invites the listener to participate in the track’s many twists and turns.

Hailing from Buenos Aires, Dante's deep connection to music began with his father's record collection and the city's underground scene. His DJ sets seamlessly blend Funk, Soul, Jazz, Latin, Disco, House, and Techno, often featuring exclusive edits. He is also one of the founders behind "Diggers Collective" where he share the love for rare records. Expect a genre-spanning mix that reflects his broad and vibrant sound.

Ide Mix 2 - Julie Silset

Jiska Huizing and Rudi Valdersnes have again joined forces for their second collaboration on Ideophone Records. They continue on the paths defined on their first release “Drum & Trails”, producing genre-defying club music that contains hypnotic rhythms and flirts with the electroacoustic.

IDE002 is a playful record with witty turns. Every track contains pulsing rhythms coming from Valdernes’ homemade percussion instruments and drum machines together with luring, curious sounds from Huizing’s field recordings, mixed with samples of her electric violin and voice. The result is a live recorded album both for ears, feet and mind.

JIJU (Jiska Huizing and Julie Silset) is the newcomer on IDE003, releasing their first remix together. Known as a DJ-duo, they have made an ambient remix of ‘Cave’ which rounds off the release. Using the track’s field recordings and manipulating the small sounds of the water droplets in this cave into percussive and melodic elements, they have created a meditative reflection through a soundscape that seems to be constantly changing. This is just the start of JIJU!

Nkisi’s remix of Sailor Song conjures up a group of sirens that grabs you by the throat right from the start and doesn’t let you go until you have danced your shoes to pieces. The hypnotic and haunting seductive powers of the sirens are supported by Nkisi’s evolving drum patterns and the strong kick catalyzes energy and warmth that runs throughout the whole track. This is a track to be played with your volume on full and enough place to be able to dance it out.

Yhdessa (Aimée Portioli and Enrica Falqui) brings out the warm side of Dunes in their remix. A simplicity in the amount of elements in this remix is the basis on which Yhdessa builds a beautiful track with modulating melodies and a constant drive forward. The delicacy of the sounds, its variations and the track’s immersive build up in combination with its rather sudden end, leaves us wanting for more and press repeat, repeat, repeat.

rRoxymore’s remix of 'Ballad' is a playful dancefloor track with a lot of bounce, intriguing details and unexpected turns. Halfway in we are surprised with a twist, as the light rhythms of the first part of the track turn around a different corner. The haunting, dubby atmosphere of the original track is explored and stretched in rRoxymore’s version, and turned into a remix that keeps the listener (dancing) on their toes.
