"In 1947, the composer Conlon Nancarrow—frustrated with human pianists and their limited ability to play his rhythmically complex music—purchased a device which allowed him to punch holes in player piano rolls. This technology allowed him to create incredibly complex musical compositions, unplayable by human hands, which later came to be widely recognized by electronic musicians as an important precursor to their work.

A similar interest in seemingly impossible music can be found today in a group of musicians who use MIDI files (which store musical notes and timings, not unlike player piano rolls) to create compositions that feature staggering numbers of notes. They're calling this kind of music "black MIDI," which basically means that when you look at the music in the form of standard notation, it looks like almost solid black"

"culminate is a track that i've worked on for weeks and holds a special place in my heart to me. I decided to release a heavily cut-down version for BSC as I think this track helped me a lot and it'd fit the healing theme perfectly, I hope y'all enjoy it <3"

this song was made around one year ago, and it's still one of my favorite works. This was actually technically the original, as the old version was altered to fit the requirements for BangerSound's Cipher, in fact this was uploaded to soundcloud before. It was around the last time I'd make a track solely for myself for the following year, and I really enjoyed the whole process. I've been slowly working towards an EP which should release in about a year from now, but in the meantime I've been working on FOF III, alongside a secret project revival. I hope you do bear with me, I promise I have lots to show.

The entire purpose of this is to get more artists exposed to hearing/making real mashcore. Think of it as a love letter to the genre and the long history it has. How does it work? One person makes a mashcore track and nominates 3 other musicians. Then, the nominated musicians have to make their own mashcore track and nominate other people too. It's meant to set off a little chain of events of people "responding" to the challenge, similar to the war dub and #NOISE_BATTLE on Twitter.

I encourage all you musicians to join in and make your own mashcore tracks! Have fun, get creative, and be sure to use the hashtag #MashcoreBattle in your tags!

𝗗𝗜𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗬 𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠:
+ Easy - Track can be made easily with few samples, simple chopped breakbeats, and around 1-2 minutes. Mostly for people who aren't typical mashcore artists
+ Medium - Track is more difficult with numerous samples, multiple complex breakbeats, little to no patterns, and around 2-4 minutes. This one is a bit of a test for those have made mashcore/breakcore before or claim to!
+ Hard - Track must be absolutely chaotic. 30 samples minimum, large amounts of breakbeats, very complex chops and automation, lots of effects, and 5 minutes or longer. Use this one on the professionals or gigamashcore artists!
