⚡️ I/M: A Chronicle of Lightning Bolts ⚡️ was Idgy Dean’s final Harvard Divinity thesis project––a House of Yes-esque one-woman mystical rock opera of songs and visions composed during pandemic times. It is both an archive and an art show. A text and a testament. A performance and a prayer.

It is an opportunity for the monk and the reveler to come out and play.

It’s BANG BANG SUN SALUTE SEASON, Y’ALL! ☀️ Each year around the Summer Solstice I like to reignite my morning ritual practice of worshiping the big ball of light in the sky. 

Starting this week, I invite you to learn more about my favorite song, SURYA NAMASKAR, and how to make this simple physical tune a daily prayer. 

As you soak in the longest day of the year, I invite you to listen to me teach and preach on why I love this yogic ritual so much.

An Invitation to the Process: HELP ME CO-WRITE THIS NEW SONG!

Here's a peek inside the Idgy Dean process... My soul has always dictated DRUMS FIRST, LYRICS LAST. So, when summoning new material, I'll jam over drum beat loops, find the right riffs, and basically just proceed to sing in tongues---using guttural throat belly mouth moan sounds and abstract phrases to fish for whatever wants to come out. To me, this is the purest most natural way to cultivate a vocal part. I'll eventually curate words that sound most like the primordial notes, and arrange them into meaningful lyrics. Almost all of my songs are born this way. Here's what came out on Monday at Spaceman Sound, first take, 100% improvised non-articulated singing, rough recorded on my iPhone. I'd like to invite any and all interested parties and poets to give a listen and send me potential lyrics to match with the abstract vocals. My new record is turning into a triptych---the first third is just about finished, and as I sink into chapter 2, I'd like to include everyone in on the experimentation... Your fire feathers, still in my fingers, a two-hand head-hold kiss, on my nose and on my lips. In awe, in love on New Year’s Day. Hannah Jean Lundeen, won’t you instead marry me? I know you love your man, but he can’t show you the things I can. The gladiator is the provider, the ballerina, my desire. Oh she’s a blue-eyed hypnotist, with a gaze I can’t resist. And we prefer the form female, but we’re gonna marry a man instead. Oh, I thought that I knew her well, but she’s gonna stay with her man... Instead.
