"Meta" is of Greek origin, used as a prefix which  refers to "after" or "beyond". 

In the English language, "Meta" is defined as an abstraction, which is the product of a process from another concept. 

This product of process, known as an abstraction, is composed of subordinate sub-categories. 

Over time we have managed to create a "Meta" for what music should be. We put music into genres. We define music with notes and in keys. We write music in time. We create music with instruments.

Music is a Meta.
