For those who’ve been following my Burnout Sumner adventures for a while now, this might sound familiar. Every three years, I drop a pretty extended mix dedicated to that special kind of Balearic house music bliss that continues to be a major part of my life, despite all the personal changes that have happened since the last edition. So here we are with Volume III: “An Escape to Balearic Paradise.”

Expect an almost three-hour-long journey into a tropical dreamscape, carefully curated by yours truly. It’s a sun-drenched selection of my favorite tracks from this magical musical realm, collected since the 2022 edition. You'll find familiar faces like DJ Koze, Space Ghost, and Joe Goddard, alongside hidden gems from Desert Island Disco, Lars Bartkuhn, Barbara Boeing, and Conga Fever: the forgotten alias of Tom Hessler aka Der Assistent. One personal highlight: Sofia Kourtesis’ dreamy remix of Perel’s Matrix, a track I still get goosebumps from. Also included is an Alex Kassian rework-slash-tribute to Michael Göttsching’s iconic E2-E4 from 1981, which still feels like the spiritual blueprint for this entire genre.

But let’s not get lost in name-dropping - because in the end, this mix is all about the vibe. It’s an invitation to slow down, to breathe deeply, to let your mind wander over imaginary coastlines. Maybe you’ll find yourself dancing barefoot in golden sunlight, or drifting into twilight with a soft breeze brushing your skin. This is a soundtrack for summer days and balmy nights, a celebration of warmth, serenity, and musical escapism - and honestly, don’t we all need a little more of that right now? Cosmic Coastline III: An Escape To Balearic Paradise



Max Essa (@max-essa) has been active as a producer and DJ since the early 90s, initially releasing music on labels including Warp Records and Paper Recordings and DJing alongside the infamous D.i.Y Sound System.

His later work, for labels like Is It Balearic? Recordings, went on to be play-listed by legends such as Andrew Weatherall and David Mancuso, gaining him a devoted following and DJ bookings around the world.

Albums for the Japanese major label, Victor Entertainment ('Vacations Never Taken' 2015) and Music For Dreams ('Lanterns' 2018), plus EPs for labels including Hell Yeah! Recordings and Razor N Tape (with Eddie C), and a constant stream of remixes for labels like Compost, Ubiquity, Faze Action and Leng have shown him to be a prolific and deeply imaginative producer.

Since 2008 he has been based in Japan where he plays regularly at clubs and events around the country, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
From 2010 - 2023 he was a resident DJ at the Lone Star parties, and later the Zim Zam Zu! events at the legendary, Bar Bonobo and for over a decade has been a resident at the ever popular, Aoyama Tunnel in Tokyo.

What up Idle Cellars fam? We’re back with another stellar new mix for your spring-into-summer fun, so pop a tasty bottle and get horizontal! Once again we’re proud to give you a mix from some of the world’s best selectors and this month showcases another favorite - it’s Brooklyn’s JKriv! We met Jason while he was holding down basslines for incredible acoustic House band Tortured Soul, which he followed swiftly by a stint in NYC disco-obsessed group Escort (amazing!), then linking up with Aaron Dae to create the influential Razor-N-Tape label empire! Since then the man has been living the disco dream, traveling the world playing tunes, making some fantastic music (check out his groovy and soothing Within EP) and opening the RNT record shop in addition to being a wonderful human being. 

He’s hooked us up with a poolside killer that has us dreaming of hot, hazy afternoons treading water, mornings when there’s nothing to do but soak in some rays, & nights of wine & torchlit patios. We hope you enjoy as much as we do!

Our shared affinity for world travel and adventure led us to connect in 2006 while working crush in Sonoma. Idle Cellars was born with our first batch of Cabernet Sauvignon reflecting, as in most harmonious relationships, a balanced yin and yang between city dwelling Heavner and country living Larks. We strive to produce an elegantly balanced wine through our grace of art. Our belief is that the essence of winemaking is getting dirty in the vineyard, ensuring the best of Sonoma. We make it from the vine to the bottle through hands-on craftsmanship. Our knowledge and deep understanding of our agricultural surroundings allows us to choose what we believe are the best processes for each varietal of wine. Working together for 17 years now, Ben and Ari’s winemaking bond is stronger than ever, escalating the Idle movement one glass at a time.
