Electric Dream

A track written for the Spectrasonics contest featuring loops from their Flagship product Omnisphere.

Omni Range

This is the first track in what I call the "Go Figure" experiment. I used Propellerhead's Figure for iOS exclusively on the track. What you here are sounds, mixing and effects all from Figure. The track was recorded "live" into Sound Forge as a 24 bit wave file. The bass and drums are looped and I improvised the melody on the fly. For those of you who have figure here are my basic settings:

Pump: 50
key: E minor
Tempo: 108
Shuffle: Off
Lead: Glitch Keys rhythm 11, range the upper 2/3rds, scale steps 5
Bass: Not Pickaxe rhythm 8, range first 1/3rd,  scale steps 3
Drums: Techologic kick 4, snare 2, no hats or shakething

As soon as Propellerhead ads a way to share settings I will post those as well.

Reflections

MNT -- My New Toy. I just added a Korg Kronos 88 to my studio. This tune was written with exactly one program sound. With the Kronos each program sound can have a default drum track. I change the drum track to something a little more suitable. This was recorded in one take.

I don't play piano very well so I wrote a piano track. Moody piano improv in D minor.

Sunday Piano 02 - 16 - 2020

Here is a bit of music I did for the Boys and Girls Club of America. This is a short intro for an interactive game that teaches teens the ups and downs of decision making while trying to run a small business.  The music goes along with an animated intro before the games starts.

It's just 3 tracks of Guitars, Bass and Drums recorded in Sonar X1.

This was done through my production company, Big Think Productions.

The T Shirt Song

I wrote this tune and released it on mp3.com during that site's heyday. It's the title track to "In Out Thru" released on mp3.com. Soon it will be re-mixed and re-mastered for an upcoming release.

Love on a Toy Train

I was able to finally take a little time and give Nano Studio by blip interactive a little love. What a great program. It took me a little while to learn the nuances of navigation in the app. I wrote half of this on my iPhone 5 and the rest on my iPad. The iPad is definitely easier to work on due to the larger area. I only used stock sounds and what can I say? The Eden Synth sounds awesome.

Nano-chill

intelligent design theory (Mike Rinehart) got his start in the electronic music labs of the University of Tennessee. Creating experimental music by designing sounds on the various synthesizers was the order of the day. Most work was done on the Ensoniq VFXsd. It was one of the first "all in one" workstation keyboards with an on board sequencer. The other keyboard used in sound design was the Kawai K5 and it's rack mountable twin the Kawai K5m. Mike also had the opportunity to install the first ever hard disk recording system in the UT music labs.

Mike soon found that sequencing actual pitched sounds was more fun the doing just experimental music. It was then he got his first music PC. A 386 DX40 with something of the magnitude of 2 megs of RAM and a 40 meg hard disk. Armed with a Roland U-20 and a copy of Cakewalk for DOS (yes, you read that right) he started sequencing synthy, poppy, leftover from the eighties grooves.

Music school had taken its toll and after a near ten year hiatus, an energized Mike started writing music again. New equipment and new software and a new outlook on life has inspired him to get back to his roots and flex all the music muscle that had weakened due to non-use.
