Listen to this amazing new series of podcasts called 'Bristol at War'. They've been lovingly created by local people with the help of Unlocking Our Sound Heritage, BCfm community radio and Bristol Museums’ participation team. Freshly trained podcasters tell  special stories inspired by the oral histories in Bristol Libraries ‘A Town in the West Country’.

This oral history collection was recorded in 1988, capturing memories of Bristolians reminiscing about wartime Bristol.  The recordings were part of research for a play of the same name that was performed at the Bristol Old Vic.   

Under the guidance of BCfm’s Marcus Smith, local people were recruited and trained to create these podcasts. Using the archival audio as a basis, participants enhanced them with research and commentary, reflecting on what these voices are telling us. Moving, funny and thoughtful by turns, they have been compiled into this one hour audio piece.

A Town in the West Country recordings are now available in digital format thanks to the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage project based at Bristol Archives.

the title refers to a line from the book VALIS.pkd's hypothesized that history had been stopped in the 1st century A.D., and that "the Empire never ended" (referring to the Roman Empire). "Tell Them About the Frequencies (We've Found)" may be first in the track list, but it was the last of all of the songs on this album to be composed (2010). It was recorded immediately after its composition with a combination of equipment used on the earlier recordings (tracks 4, 6, 8) and the subsequent ones (tracks 2, 3, 5, 7, 9). During mixing in 2013, it was found to possess adequate energy and overall quality so that it would not have to be re-recorded. It is also the most accurate indicator of how GotS's sound will evolve into their sophomore release... whenever that will be.
