Not sure of the insects producing these noises, but there seemed to be groups of them in the big trees in mine and the neighbors yards. Their growing intensity, which sounds like a lawn sprinkler, would grow from tree to tree and was really amazing to hear in the Surround Sound atmosphere. The flowing wave form of the sound file is indicative of this phenomena.

30 Seconds @ The Backyard

Taking my two-mile commute home I decided to capture the moment as I was crossing the Route 27 bridge going over the Raritan. Like many days, the NPR newscast is dominating my sound space. With the rain I was only able to have my windows down an inch or two, so it appears quite loud. The jewel of this recoding is at around :05 you can faintly hear a couple of girls scream as a gust of wind came at them on the bridge and their umbrellas collapsed in.

30 Seconds @ My Commute Home On a Rainy Day

This is my first recording with the new FiRe 2 iPhone app - still working through a couple kinks. I recorded this from the balcony of our second-floor apartment, so the persistent tape hiss sound is the wind blowing through the tree in front of the house. There are some insect sounds floating around here and there, and the topper is the car passing by and hearing it's doppler effect.

This was recorded about an hour after the earthquake. I was at this Starbucks in Somerset when it happened. I don't think any of the customer's sentiments about the earthquake are captured here, but it is interesting how things went pretty much back to normal quickly after this extremely rare occurrence.

This is a little insight into the intricacies of a band practice. This is my band Duochrome, minus the drummer who couldn't make it, setting up the equipment at a rehearsal space we rent in Hoboken. There was debate about using someone else's amp who also uses the space. There is a voice that sounds outside of the room saying "hey" and "yeah" over and over. That was from another band in the room next to ours testing out their microphones.

Though PJ's Coffee is a chain the only one I know of is in my town. They keep the worst hours, but that's a story for another day. On this particular mid-day visit they didn't have any background music on and it made the space sound hollow and melancholy. I think the two older gentlemen who were sitting behind me talking reflected this.

I was sitting outside at the tables on the patio of Au Bon Pain, and it was a beautiful fall day. Their was a great vibe of the specialness of this day and folks were on the move. I think I'll leave this one at that.
