Philosophy and the Art of Writing — A Workshop with Professor Richard Shusterman took place on April 26, 2023 at Colégio Almada Negreiros, NOVA University Lisbon. With the presence of Prof. Richard Shusterman and participation of members of the group Forms of Life and Practices of Philosophy, this workshop promoted discussion on the main topics of Shusterman's book "Philosophy and the Art of Writing" (Routledge, 2022).

Ruas de sentido único é um programa de rádio organizado por Maria Filomena Molder, Nélio Conceição e Nuno Fonseca, no âmbito do projeto “Fragmentação e reconfiguração: a experiência da cidade entre arte e filosofia” (IFILNOVA) e transmitido pela Antena 2.

As cidades são campos de forças, nebulosas de passos, acampamentos de vivos e mortos. Ruas do tempo, intimações do presente, ruas de sentido único.

Sob a égide de Walter Benjamin, que inerva de múltiplos modos este projeto, surgiu de forma algo espontânea o título Ruas de sentido único.

Tal como o livro publicado por Benjamin [Einbahnstrasse, de 1928], composto de breves textos fragmentários e heterogéneos (autobiográficos, alegóricos, aforísticos ou meramente descritivos) urdidos pelas suas vivências, deambulações e observações urbanas, o programa visa partilhar, dar a ouvir e a pensar experiências, pontos de vista e impressões singulares sobre lugares, percursos, atmosferas, encontros, sons e acústicas, ou histórias de e em cidades, que, de algum modo, afetaram, ressoaram e se exprimiram nas vidas e nas obras de convidados, vivos ou já falecidos.

O propósito é, assim, fazer, a partir de fragmentos e depoimentos diversos, necessariamente seletivos e incompletos, como que uma série de topografias sensíveis da cidade ou das cidades, que são traduzidas pela palavra falada e ilustradas pelas micronarrativas e paisagens sonoras.

Na 1.ª série, cada programa centra-se num convidado – músico, fotógrafo, cineasta, ensaísta, poeta, artista plástico, arquiteto, filósofo… – partilhando diferentes perspetivas e sensibilidades acerca da(s) cidade(s) em que habita(ra)m (que visitaram ou da qual fugiram), e/ou num tema da experiência urbana. Para além de conversas e/ou leituras, há ilustrações sonoras, musicais ou documentais, de locais, zonas ou atmosferas da cidade em foco.

Na 2.ª série continuamos à volta da cidade, de várias cidades, num movimento de reflexão que procura combinar a circulação, o retorno das questões que sabemos incontáveis, com as saídas certeiras, mesmo que sejam apenas pequenos desvios.

Guy du Plessis talked about “Philosophy as a Way of Life and Psychotherapy” at the "Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: Final Conference" that took place between October 16th and 18th, 2024. 

The final conference of the project “Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach” brought together team members, consultants, and collaborators of the project in order to present the most significant results achieved in the last two years. In line with the project’s main objective, the conference mapped the vibrant and multifaceted field of philosophy as a way of life (PWL) and presented for the first time the main contents of the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Philosophy as a Way of Life. In doing so, it aimed to provide an up-to-date overview of the leading research trends in the field while also discussing new avenues of inquiry, use, and application of PWL.

Philosophy as a Way of Life and Contemplative Studies (Michael Chase)

19th session of the PWL International Seminar, hosted by Sajjad Rizvi (University of Exeter) who talked about “Philosophy as a Way of Life in Islamic Philosophy”. The session took place on January 14, 2025.

The PWL International Seminar is held virtually once a month and takes place within the scope of the activities of the exploratory project Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach, coordinated by Marta Faustino (CultureLab/IFILNOVA), and the activities of the research group Forms of Life and Practices of Philosophy, coordinated by Bartholomew Ryan (CultureLab/IFILNOVA).
