Coinciding with the release of a four part film by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns & McMahon, Muhammad Ali, this dynamic group explores the complexity of Ali, from his refusal to fight in the Vietnam War, membership in the Nation of Islam, and experience as a public figure and proud Black man in America. Now one of the most celebrated men of the last century, Muhammad Ali’s ability to connect with so many, demand more of his country, and pursue greatness has much to teach us all.

The Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray is currently being rediscovered for her activism against racial, gender, and economic injustice and her advocacy for reconciliation between all Americans. But her trailblazing work as the first Black female Episcopal priest in United States and her lifelong commitment to spiritual values often goes overlooked in discussions of her legacy. 

We were honored to have featured the Very Reverend Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas, the Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary, as our keynote speaker for this discussion. Dean Douglas, as one of the first ten Black women ordained in the Episcopal Church USA, is directly inspired by Pauli Murray’s legacy.

Interfaith America hosted a moderated conversation on the barriers to voting and civic participation experienced by BIPOC folks and formally incarcerated folks, and what we can do to remove those barriers through local organizing and interfaith cooperation.

The Rev. Fred Davie moderated the panel of speakers including LaTosha Brown of Black Voters Matter Fund, Sheena Meade of Clean Slate Initiative, Rev. Eli Valentin of the Hispanic Theological Initiative and Union Theological Seminary, and Rev. Jacqui Lewis at Middle Collegiate Church.

Many have committed to leveraging their networks, influence, and cultural power to raise awareness about the ongoing HIV and AIDS epidemic, and we amplify the lifesaving and groundbreaking work being carried by Greek affiliated organizations across the country.

In this episode, we talk with filmmaker and storyteller Valarie Kaur. We discuss the importance of storytelling in the interfaith movement and how Sikhs engage with interfaith work. We also hear from Maneshwar Singh, an interfaith leader at Loyola University whose passion for Sikh devotional music offered an entry point into the interfaith movement.
