Pressing on swiftly with their 2024 schedule, emerging Chilean-born talent Hitch.93 arrives on Phuture Shock - for the seventh outing in the label’s ‘PSM Dubz’ series - with a tasty double dosage of UKG-laced-bruk flavours by name of ‘Blanka’s Kick’ b/w ‘Mary Jane’.

Hailing from Santiago de Chile, Hitch.93 has been garnering attention in the global UK garage scene of late, with his 90s-inspired, multi-ranging productions – touching on bumpy 4x4 to fresh hybrids of 2-step and bruk - that he describes as “Half2step”. Having taken up production almost a decade ago, the artist has dabbled in an array of styles; including D&B, dubstep, footwork, and broken beat, before solely finding favour with the sounds of UK garage around 2020.

In the last few years, the producer/DJ has carved out a distinct path of his own among UKG’s new wave, through a string of self-released efforts, and further releases on budding labels such as Vibesy, Fourbyfour, and Amigo Dubs; not to mention a notable V/A feature on garage legend Karl ‘Tuff Enuff’ Brown’s 2TUF4U imprint. Equally prolific on the DJ front, he’s also supplied a raft of guest mixes for Rinse FM, Balamii, Piñata radio and Bristol’s SWU FM station, to name a few. With a growing resume behind him, Hitch.93 continues his hot streak with ‘Blanka’s Kick’, an assured 2-tracker that is heavily rhythmic at its core, but veers ever-so-slightly away from the throwback UKG flex of his previous work, and leans closer towards some of the bruk-influenced, yet genre-fluid output of Phuture Shock Musik. 

Opening the A-side is the percussive antics of ‘Blanka’s Kick’, which pairs the melodic vibes of 2-step with the jittery syncopation of broken beat, for a cut where an earworm of a keys-line slithers between sundry vocal stabs and a dizzying combo of tuff, foot-flinging beats that hits harder than the iconic video game brawler which the track title pays homage to. Housed on the flip is ‘Mary Jane’, a funky broken bubbler that’s heavy on the vocal chop trickery of classic UKG, where hooky RnB-sampling vox frolic  over an undulating chord sequence, replete with deep subby bass, and underpinned by off-kilter snares, claps and skittering percussion that nods to Hitch’s past Chicago juke influences.
