Biography of The Point

The Point, has one of the strongest deliveries and more recognizable voices among emerging hip-hop stars.  Introduced to rap by Run-DMC, he wrote his first rap song to “King of Rock”.  Slick Rick however, was the most influential in his desire to become a rapper.  As the youngest in his family, he used music to get attention. He would walk around imitating rap songs and eventually taught himself how to put together his own rhymes and lyrics. At age 6, he knew every bar in a Slick Rick song, and his family gave The Point his first rap name, ‘Ricky’, after the hip-hop legend.
   
The Point is known for playing a huge role on the local Paterson, NJ mixtape scene of the late 90’s and early 2000’s.  He’s been included on too many mixtapes to name them all, but his more recent collection of freestyles, “My Point Exactly” can still be found online and downloaded.
 
His industry exposure reached the masses with an appearance on DJ Kay Slay’s “The Drama Hour”.  The Point has also taken the stage at the famous Highline Ballroom with "Kosha Dillz" and "Millie Holidae" as well as a performance at Southpaw in Brooklyn.  In pursuit of a career in music, The Point has performed at venues from grocery stores to cafes and everywhere in between that he could reach an audience, including an audition for Diddy’s ‘Making the Band”!
 
The Point, of Jamaican and Cuban decent was born and raised in Paterson, NJ, in one of the toughest neighborhoods to grow up in.  To counter that environment, his family was deeply rooted in the church.  His mother listened to Ray Charles and Billy Ray Cyrus, among other country music artists while his father listened to a lot of culture style reggae and songs like the ‘electric slide’.  It is his brothers who listened to ‘dance hall’ and R&B¬¬ music that introduced him to 98.7 Kiss FM with Kool DJ Red Alert and 107.5 with Marley Marl and Mister Magic.  Growing up in music classes at school, playing the drums, trombone, and most percussion is how The Point learned how to count bars or measures in music. He’s been around music his entire life.  That background has great influence on his creativity, making The Point an overall musical talent.

Managed by Renaissance Life Entertainment, The Point is currently recording new material, perfecting his performance, and working with other prominent artists on the rise.  "There are a lot of rappers, but do me a favor.....don’t call me the next” perfectly sums up The Point’s outlook on his career. From his diverse style to his wordplay, he is the new, the first, The Point.
