Next up we’ve invited Jaine. Lars is not your average producer, but would rather be referred to as a true sound artist. Being a student at the Music & Technology faculty at HKU (Utrecht), his main expertises are composition, creative coding, and sound design. As a DJ, he is always looking to blend in a wider palette of sounds, taking inspiration from a broad spectrum of places. For the past years, there's been a main focus on compromising between after-hours and post-clubbing atmospheres. That said, he’s someone who tries to maintain a gig-to-gig approach when finding himself on or in front of the dance floor. That’s where there will always be the challenge of projecting his ‘solution’ on the given sound system, the listener and himself.

For this mix, Jaine had two initial ideas: a more dance-floor-minded setting, or something that lies completely beyond the point of traditional club tunes. He decided to record the mix at the end of the day, moulding all the experiences he encaptured throughout into a carefully selected ensemble dubbing it “the 25th hour”. His overall mood ended up with a mix loaded with a combination of electronic, electro-acoustic, and experimental pieces. It gradually progresses and reaches an emotional consensus at the end, consisting of recent finds and old favourites.

For this edition Betonska/Dzungla is collaborating with Spanish label Organic Signs, who happen to have re-issued another work by Sebastian Taylor: Digitalis - Soma Junkies. In line with this release, Organic Signs have organised a secret party in the middle of nature and close to Madrid called Refractor, with a stellar line-up, and the one and only Digitalis/Biotone among others. And in honour of the festival, Jan Swam recorded a very special mix as part of the Betonska Basta series. Here’s what he has to say about it:

“This is Alejandro aka Jan Swam, label manager of the Spanish label organic Sings. I want to present you a very special mix that has been made in honour of Refractor, a very special date that is taking place on the 27th of May in a secret spot in the middle of nature next to Madrid.

And I say it's very special because it's a like collaborative mix: I asked each artist playing at Refractor to send me a couple of tracks that reminded them of an event like this, and I mixed them together with my contribution and the one of Iggy P.

I also wanted to show that in a world where there is a lot of toxic competition, joining forces always wins in the end. Betonska and Organic Signs have re-released different akas by Seb Taylor (Biotone & Digitalis), and nothing makes me happier than meeting each other and being able to collaborate on this mix.

papi war schon immer eine bewusste musikhörerin. die motivation, ihre eigene sammlung aufzubauen, kam jedoch erst vor kurzem. gefördert wurde dies durch die unterstützung in ihrer neuen umgebung, insbesondere durch femme bass mafia, die sie in die kunst des auflegens einführten. bezugnehmend auf ihre eigene natur, präsentiert papi mit kfpnyx047 eine zusammenstellung, die die bandbreite der bassmusik-ästhetik demonstriert, indem sie uns gefühlvoll durch verschiedene genres und stimmungen gleiten lässt.

papi was always a conscious listener of music, however, her motivation to begin building her collection came relatively recently. this was fostered by the encouragement she found in new surroundings, particularly by femme bass mafia who introduced her to the art of djing. leaning into the characteristics of her own nature, with kfpnyx 047 papi presents a compilation, that demonstrates the breadth of bass music aesthetics, weaving us through various genres and sensitive undulating moods. 

*femme bass mafia is a dj mentoring program for femme, trans and non-binary people, with a focus on bass music and the creation of safer learning spaces.

the kfpnyx mix series includes many sub kinds of electronic music, especially rough and melodic techno, house, electro, breakbeat and ambient. for this purpose we want to involve our residents, friends of the crew and selected guests.
