Her lifelong affection for music, dancing and their past and present subcultures coalesced into her work as a DJ, record store clerk, events curator and sound system tech. Hyanna’s sets express a range of emotions across dance genres, like jazz, disco, funk, soul, world and beyond. Her style of music presentation stirs collective feeling by selecting moods defined by instrumentality, arrangements and messaging.

I recently found an old mixtape of mine, which, according to the hand-scribbled label, I compiled back in the summer of 2002. Aside from the questionable mixing and some rather obvious track selections, I still found it to be quite an enjoyable listen. The sound quality of the recording was pretty dreadful after all these years, so I decided to re-record it, painstakingly recreating the mix as closely and as accurately as I could - Staying true to the original vibe, but with the added benefit of today's digital technology. Very much a labour of love, I'm pleased to share this mixtape with The Electric Disco. Hope you enjoy it!
