Jakia - Good Day

Gaël Segalen est compositrice et activiste sonore depuis une vingtaine d’années.
Sa recherche "IhearU" (“je t’entends”) met l’accent sur la relation directe au monde par le son.
Ses réalisations discographiques et intermedia font écho à ses expériences à RFI, au cinéma comme preneuse de son, dans l’éducation,
le milieu associatif auprès de publics sensibles, en art sonore engagé, en composition électroacoustique auprès de Christine Groult au Conservatoire de Pantin.
Centrée sur les enregistrements de terrain, entre improvisation et écriture ciselée, elle s’attache à la coexistence en musique et ses compositions électroniques évoquent l’expérience de la multiplicité et du chaos.
Eclectique, psychédélique, brute et sophistiquée, sa polymusique a aussi été qualifiée de Danceable Field Recording.

Elle a collaboré et conversé avec Jean-Marc Foussat, Constanze Ruhm, Best Αvailable Technology, Joachim Montessuis, Aki Onda, Ronnie Lynn Patterson, 
Brandon LaBelle, duenn, Christine Webster, Marlies Pöschl, Shu Lea Cheang, Eunhee Cho, Collectif Mu, Collectif Fusion, Polyphones, Lutherie Urbaine, 
tout en maintenant depuis 2012 le projet électronique Les Graciés avec Eric Douglas Porter (Afrikan Sciences).

Sa musique est publiée sur les labels Erratum Musical, Frm-at, Coherent States, Kinjiro Tapes, Les Ateliers Claus et Firecracker Recordings.
Actuellement en résidence au Centre National de Création Musicale Césaré, pour sa dernière composition « Cœurs Manifestes ».

"Coeurs Manifestes" is a musical composition and live improvisation in chapters,
epic, plausible and moving, reflecting our planetary tremors.
It collides and creates a dialogue between explorations on
synthesizers, a spontaneous singing choir and mechanical
craftsmen noises of the Docks Rémois, recorded during a
composition residency in 2021 in the Césaré studios.

Live performance spatialized on 8 moving points, with a
lighting design acting as a celestial mirror.

NORA SIGUÉ LYL RADIO ENDLESS VIBRATION Fév 2024

Premiered at the Kitchen in New York city in 1971, this recording was made by Phill Niblock at his Experimental Intermedia Foundation on December 16th, 1988. The performers were Yoshimasa Wada and myself.  The occasion was the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Experimental Intermedia Foundation.

The recording was released on The Table of the Elements Records (TOE 073) in 2006.  I believe that it is now out of print, so I’m posting the piece in its entirety on SoundCloud. The duration of the piece is about an hour.

Here are the somewhat hyperbolic record notes, written by TOTE founder Jeff Hunt:

“The hour-long Two Gongs fills the entirety of this disc with its ethereal, droning psychedelia. While written in 1971, the '89 recording documented here features Chatham, along with fellow composer Yoshimase Wada coaxing heavy, overlapping tones out of a pair of Chinese gongs. The instruments buzz and hum, moving in waves from deafening rattles to soft, muted drones. The monstrous noise that Chatham concocts is far more akin to the seismic crashes of monstrously distorted guitar feedback than that of two unprocessed slabs of metal, and it proves the composer's interest in creating a similar world of sound out of whatever instrument currently proved his muse. On disc, the performance is jaw-droppingly powerful, a monumental chunk of glorious noise.”

« J’ai eu envie de faire entendre toutes les voix qu’ont capté mes micros depuis 2012. C’est une succession de miniatures sonores d’une minute exactement qui évoque l’univers des artistes que wi watt’heure a documentées.
