The idea behind this project was to explore the meaning behind ‘soft fascination’—a state of effortless attention that causes your emotional state to be uplifted. It can be anything from watching waves break to walking alone on a trail in the woods. For me it was creating these songs.

In Poppy’s words, ‘I wrote the song for David Turay, a good friend and an amazing saxophonist [who’s virtuosic playing is sampled in the song]. David passed away in late November last year. The song is for him, for me and for anyone who has lost someone close to them. Writing it was the only way I could make sense of what I was feeling. Mostly I wish he could have known how much we cared about him, and I feel like I’m telling him every time I sing his song.’
