for those who didnt know, to trigger the nightmare assault, you have to start the killhouse mission, on elite difficulty (legend not recommended), raise the alarm, and rewire the wires that become dark, which is in random order. if done correctly, the wires will glow white and you can put the diamond drill. once you put it, the nightmare assault will begin and the difficulty will switch to legend. only objective you have in this nightmare assault is to survive for 15 minutes.
