CHICAGO, IL — crazygoji returns with his debut album horsey tunes. Chicago-based chiptune savant crazygoji is a man who needs no introduction. But for those unfortunate few whose earballs still have not witnessed the weird wonders of his body of work, let me break it down for you, son: Goji is the closest thing we’ve got to an Internet-era Syd Barrett. Goji’s music carries with it the optimism of the early Internet age, when technology seemed to be the cure for everything and the future still looked peachy. His tunes, horsey or otherwise, consistently convey a sense of nostalgia and hectic fun you can't find anywhere else (and I have looked in all the other places). Sometimes delirious, always joyous, crazygoji will be your new favorite musician from now until forever. I have decided this for you, no need to thank me.

crazygoji’s horsey tunes is, without a doubt, the most highly acclaimed album in this entire sentence. This album changed my life and, more importantly, my wife. And trust me, if it’s good enough for my wife, it’s good enough for you(rs). Mark my words, little people in my computer: horsey tunes will occupy the entire Billboard 200 from now on probably. this album was made from april 7th to may 1st, and was written entirely in Ableton with the Genny VST with light flourishes of other synths (save for bar․io, which was written with Ableton's wavetable synth and an old 32-bit Roland Jupiter 6 emulation VST). the drum machines used were the dry session kit, gen purpose kit, Roland TR 808 and 909 kits default in Ableton, and Genny default percussion patches. this is the most I've used squarewaves before. currently trying to study norio hanzawa a little deeper. much thanks go out to my family and friends

Distant Islands: 51 minutes of experimental SNES chiptune, treating the soundchip like the quirky 8-channel sampler that it is; featuring microtonality, glitches galore, heavy manipulation of the chip's available effects and parameters, and unusual, often homegrown sounds. All tracks were recorded straight from a single Super Famicom system, with the exception of live drums layered onto "Welcome Back to Dragon Airlines".

Someone once told me that when I write I "leave keys for distant islands" and the phrase has stuck with me ever since. This is my first full-length, non-compilation album in three years, and I focused on making something that resonated with me personally and employed the kinds of sounds I wanted to hear. I also went all-out in exploring just how strange, incredible, and absurdly messed-up the SNES could conceivably sound. I'd like to think this covers some new, fresh territory in Super Nintendo chiptune, and I hope you enjoy it!

All songs were composed and written to blank SNES ROMs using osoumen's C700 VST (or forks of the VST that add microtonal functionality and extra MIDI tooling), then recorded from my Super Famicom. The rendered audio is lightly mastered for consistency.

Dear Friend,

Salutations, chap. It has been a quite a cold series these days and weeks. There has been ice-a-plenty, and the freezeful winds whisper sweet-nothings, such as "you're not about this life, pal. go back inside"

I sit in my chamber writing this to you, lamp lit. I'm grateful for this warmth... I'm not talking about the lamp. Deep in the monochrome solitude of my manor, my heart burns... in the romantic way. And it is all caused by the heat of this new and outstanding album, 'new time romantic', by crazygoji.

As a fellow romantic, it would be in your best interest to listen to this album. Its pleasant goofs and lovable romps has evoked feelings within myself that I haven't felt since I have been acquainted with you. Do you remember that windy April day where we laid outside on the hills eating watermelon? Somehow, I was reminded of this memory while listening to the album opener, 'watermelon good times', my heart and body immediately put into a trance.

crazygoji doesn't hold back this expression of romance. The subaqueousness of 'operators anonymous' brought me back to times in Costa Rica, where we joyously swam with the mysterious dolphins. 'major simpleton' immersed me back into the tranquil times at my humble manor with you, watching The Simpsons in the newly installed IMAX theatre. 'max goof' and 'spotless' took me back to the clubs in Ibiza, where Jodie Foster herself (I'm quite sure it was her... although she seemed a bit tall... hm...) complimented our romanticful dance moves. Does this excite you? I am confident you are making that face you always made when you got excited. I'm chuckling just imagining it... it kind of looked like this emote: (⓿_⓿)

But I digress.

'times new romantic' perfectly captures the halcyon days of our very romantic relationship together. After we separated I became cold and bitter, like the dry air of winter. However, this music has reinvigorated my capacity to love. I feel jubilant. I feel vivacious. Goofy. Romantical.

As you listen to these sounds, I believe it's power will lift your spirits as well, it's sheer groove and jovial atmosphere will have you embracing the love of the Earth itself. Believe me! I have hugged the floor a few times during my listening of this album, which is quite odd... I'm not sure how it made me do all that.

As I finish writing this letter, I hope that you are well. These new times are uncertain. But I am sure you will prosper... romantically.

Written with a ROLI Seaboard, soundchips from some very old machines, a piano, a field recorder, and some excellent instrumental recordings from friends.

Elemental Fusion is an album of collaborations with instrumentalists. In most cases, I asked friends to record a few minutes of improv or pseudo-improv to use as a springboard for writing a piece of music. The tracks would then be built around whatever they sent me, often chopped up and manipulated. The result is serendipitous; these works were pushed in unique, unexpected directions by my collaborators' performances. The compositional challenge was thrilling.

This album also interprets the word "fusion" in other senses - it is a spiritual successor to the similarly-named pair of diametrically opposed EPs I released in 2022, Elemental Harmony & Elemental Chaos, combining their respective styles of "melodic chiptune" and "ambient glitch" into one work that lives on a spectrum between them. It is a blend of acoustic warmth and digital processing. It is also a synthesis of many different styles, sounds and techniques that I've come to enjoy employing in my writing.

Elemental Fusion is perhaps my most challenging and varied work to date, and I think about it as a recital of sorts for the classical concert stage, a statement of purpose. To that end, detailed program notes are included with the album!
