This month with a b2b that marks the official start of a collaboration the whole scene is scared of.
I've first heard Oskar's music on @k_means 's Instant Yum show with a production mix that blew my mind; his Tinned Heat show on Soho Radio is mint, and if you know what's good, you haven't missed his 'Chewing the Scenery' EP on All Centre, and his recent banger Kettle of Fish on @egreg-re (previously heard on the show).

So here is 2 hours of me and @dome-zero back 2 back - was a lot of fun!

Last @tminotmi show of the year with 2 ambassadors of the leftfield London scene 👽
Fellow noisemaker and @earlyreflex artist @tooth-rust put together an hour of wicked riddims and abrasive sounds, with a combo of certified bangers, WIPs and rips;
@rooomusic @rooodj delivered an incredibly dense half/double tempo rollercoaster of breaky goodness, punctuated by badass vocals and quirky left turns.

If you caught DJ Winggold playing, if you tuned in to his Unbound Riddims show, or If you’ve been at one of the legendary @unboundevents, you know what to expect from this one: brave, percussive, energetic club music that looks forward.

DJ, activist, organiser, writer, huge respect for him and for the platform he created to push marginalised and innovative artists.

DjSport is joined this month by special guest Ikava Pii for a 2 hour physical and mental practice. Ikävä Pii is a musician, producer and DJ who explores abstract and detailed club music. Hailing from the Mediterranean sea and now based in London, they stand out for their playful approach to sound design and unconventional textures. Co-founder of SODAA, they work with queer collectives like Riposte and HOWL, and recently launched Niche - a "weird sounds laboratory" and monthly event at the Baths, offering artists and noisemakers a space to experiment and perform together. 

DjSport & Ikävä Pii team up for a speed walking session, an exercise that is performed by keeping one foot on the ground at all times while exploring fast rhythms. They accelerate quickly without breaking into a run. Ikävä Pii leads the first hour of the show and DjSport brings you to the finish line, taking you through the second hour. Ready, steady, go!

For the last 3 years, @dreamingvinyl have been operating as a motion graphics studio and music discovery platform; where they reimagine a variety of their favourite records in the form of animated vinyl stickers. This year Dreaming Vinyl launch their label: DV Records, kicking it all off by celebrating 9 exciting electronic dance tracks for their V/A charity release. I got the idea to record the mix after running a few of the @striations-night nights. I wanted it to represent all the different energies, genres and tempos which we go through during one of our nights. It’s quite hypnotic yet has a lot of that deep, danceable energy you get from sub-bass heavy music.

There’s lots of tracks inside that I play out quite regularly but it’s the first time I’ve put them all together in the way that I did. It was definitely tricky to get the balance right at times, but I’m really happy with the mix and glad it’s out on a great platform!

A lot of influence for sure comes from running the @striations-night nights. Hearing lots of great artists you admire play out, and getting to test ideas on a semi-regular basis really helps you to learn what you like. 

I’ve also put a lot of music made by friends in this mix as well. Knowing the person who made the track definitely helps make the mix feel more personal, and it’s something I always try to build into my mixes.

I started the night with a couple of friends (big up Rob and Elspeth) back in 2022 because we weren’t seeing the artists we wanted to see in a venue that we liked. Spanners was still fairly new back then and we loved the space so we went for it. Mary and Tobs who run it are the best and they’ve always been very welcoming. You can tell they really care which makes a big difference!

In terms of curation we try to keep it quite organic. We book (mostly) local artists who we really like and think complement each other nicely. I think a lot of it’s about helping the artists feel relaxed and free to explore their sound when they get on the decks.

Maybe one of the @loop_lf mixes on NTS. I really love the multiple tempos and genres that flow effortlessly. Have been chasing that sound ever since.

The inaugural mix comes from experimental Italian musician, DJ, & producer @ikavapii. With this mix, they initiate explorations of waterlogged sonics in preparation for the next edition of TOWER, February 29 at Bossa Nova Civic Club in Brooklyn.

Weirdness and detail. This is all I want as a listener and a dancer, and what I want to convey as Ikävä Pii. In this mix I’ve explored slowfast ambiguity, music for ponds and futuristic punk, pairing Italian Sunitty with warped UK techno, with a couple of WTF turns.

For the most part, it is extremely detailed music. It’s abstract and rich. I don’t like the definition of “sound design” anymore: it sounds “functional”, as if the goal was creating a product. These producers are (like me), instead, trying to spawn detailed worlds.

I’ve started making music with a punk band in Puglia. I picked up a guitar because my father and all his brothers played. Family gatherings were beautifully loud. Puglia was still a poor and tough place when I was a kid, so my love for international music was a form of escapism. I was (like many others) online a lot and in touch with musicians from all over the world. I started dreaming of London listening to The Clash at maybe 12yo? London has truly shaped me, I was radicalised here. Politically and artistically. And here’s where I embraced my queerness.

I think, in many instances, it was here that I was exposed to some really fringe stuff, and that’s how I realised I loved everything that was genuinely weird or boundaries-pushing. Furthermore, I believe that Hackney Wick makes my life as an artist easier. Cheap rent, community and proximity: it’s a 5 mins walk from the warehouse to the studio and the venue, and sometimes special things only happen thanks to the support of other locals. You know who you are! <3

Niche started in April 2023 as a monthly sonic hangout; noisy jams, open decks, and improvised sets. Now it’s a full-scale event, with performances by some of the best artists we know. It started out of necessity: an accessible space to experiment with fellow noisemakers. 
My relationship with the venue was crucial; I’ve been a resident at The Bath House for 2 years now, and Niche can only happen because my studio is there.

It is a lovely ecosystem of musicians, DJs, listeners and dwellers. We are trying to bridge the gap between the bedroom and the venue, offering a space for people to try new things out and take risks, playing for the most understanding audience. In terms of curation, I am looking for the most daring acts out there - no genre limitations, but definitely priority to live shows, and musicians in particular. 
Alongside artists I know and/or follow, we met incredibly talented people through the open calls, or other nice folks who just jumped on the groupchat and asked to play! Keeping it as open and diverse as possible is at the core of our practice. We only have one resident at the moment - the amazing Queenie.
