Premiere: Etch ‘Shadows Passed By’

Scuffed Recordings line up the sixth instalment of their Scuffed Presents series, with four artists from the Scuffed roster stepping up to remix tracks from the label catalogue.

The Scuffed Presents remix compilations have become an annual tradition for the Scuffed schedule each summer, with previous remixes coming from the likes of Nikki Nair, Marshall Applewhite, Stones Taro, and label founders Ian DPM and Wager.

On 2021’s edition of the series, the label welcomes Farsight, Fiesta Soundsystem, Dubrunner, and An Avrin to put their spin on their favourite Scuffed tracks – resulting in a fresh and wide-reaching mix of sounds.

Starting off proceedings is San Francisco-based @djfarsight, whose rework of Stones Taro’s ‘To Rave’ comes straight off the back of his Renegade EP on Scuffed – which saw huge support from the likes of SHERELLE, Anz, Jamz Supernova, and more.

Up next is @fiestasoundsystem, who brings a relentless injection of jungle madness to Heritage’s anthemic ‘The Revelation’.

Stretchy Dance Supply co-founder @dubrunneruk takes the reins next with his pulsing dancehall-techno rework of a Scuffed deep-cut – Sy’s ‘4.3’.

Closing out the release is Londoner @4navr1n, whose wonky, idiosyncratic style is on show all over his remix of Dubrunner’s ‘Destination Unknown’.

Scuffed Recordings line up the fifth release in the Scuffed Presents compilation series, looking ahead to 2021 with four new artists to the label, and sounds ranging from broken bass, UK garage, rave-inspired breaks, and rolling techno.

Opening the release is Austrian producer Awo Ojiji (@awo_ojiji), a longstanding member of the Graz-based collective Disko404 who released his debut ‘Static Flow’ EP in 2020 on Eternal Ocean. His unique interpretation of broken, bass-led techno on ‘Woozy’ marks him out as an artist to watch in 2021.

Londoner Doctor Nick (@doctor_nick) will be a name familiar to those with their ears to the ground of UK dance music in the last few years, with previous appearances on Super Kitchen, Strictly Flava, and Slime Recordings among others. On ‘Squelch’, Nick creates an addictive fusion of classic UKG skippiness with a springy 303 bassline.

Next up is Maya Q (@mxyi), a resident of London collective Co-Select, and an artist whose idiosyncratic approach to production is evident all over ‘Belief’; where she pairs weighty subs and driving breaks with twisted vocal samples and eerie pads.

Rounding off the compilation is Moscow-based Dawn Razor (@awnazor), whose impressive workrate has recently landed him appearances on labels like Holding Hands and R&S. ‘Dreamproof’ is a rolling techno slammer and the perfect way to close out the release.

Monotoronique (Banoffee Pies, Opal Tapes) supplies a statement of intent for the next mutation of Branch Points. 

Hailing from the Ukraine, Montronique dispatches two sparse, clinical and brutal cuts that embody the spirit of the record.

'Incoming Signal' is flipped by the prolific Pugilist (3024, Whities, Modern Hypnosis) who brings his signature rolling percussion and sound signifers from the Hardcore Continuum.

Gaunt (Not So Much, Mistry) delivers an other worldly remix of 'Spiral Mind' in only the way Gaunt can to close out BP002.
