Better Off Alone

'Daydreaming,' the third and final single from our upcoming album, was inspired in part by films like Drive and Thief as well as some recurring characters in renowned science-fiction author William Gibson's 'Sprawl' and 'Bridge' trilogies, released in the 1980s and 1990s, respectively. The track itself pays homage to Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" era while still maintaining an overall retrowave theme.

Specifically, 'Daydreaming' speaks to the often unspoken tension and feelings that can build up between two individuals that find themselves spending a lot of time together but, for one reason or another, are unable to or incapable of being together in any real sense. Hence, the only place that the fantasy can reside is in dreams.

' Brazilian artist Tjor makes a momentous debut on Wrong Era with his EP ‘Turbo Lover’. Bringing his energetic percussion and fizzing synth arps to a new realm in the title track, a solid tone is set from the start. Tjor’s intelligent fusion of EBM and New Beat can be heard in the dark, stormy ‘The Run’ amongst ghostly, rhythmic vocals. 

‘Eternal affair’ blends Italo Disco’s arpeggios with hints of the glistening flare of west coast electro. Vocals and synth lines combine to create an atmosphere that perfectly matches the track’s title. The rising brilliance of ‘Midnight’ keeps in line with the EP’s forward-thinking energy with infectious Hi-RG synth stabs and driving low-end. ‘Corsa Romantica’ swells you into an elusive dusk setting with a powerful, swirling melody that ties the faultless elements together. Turbo Lover is a fitting title for an EP that shifts things into the next gear.'

After releasing recently the track “Sexotel” in our compilation RetroFutur, Panthera is back
with a definitively interstellar… cosmic… astral release !

This artist from the south of France has a gift : that of magnifying the analog synthesizers of the 70s/80s with a sensitivity all his own.
Surely inspired by the founding fathers of a new musical era like Jean Michel Jarre or Hiroshi Yoshimura, Panthera expresses a whole retro culture in his music.

The eponym track “Superchampion” is a beautiful and sensitive track, slow but sure. The perfect track to hit the road and get away from it all along the Côte d’Azur.

Clarion is cutted for the dancefloor. The rollin bass and the incredible pads/leads are supported by a powerful kick, a sharp snare and an effective rhythm.
Close you eyes, it’s time to dance !

To close the original tracks, “Cruising” is so sweet. When you listen to that music, you can’t help but think about 80s TV series full of good feelings like “Diff'Rent Strokes” or “Punky Brewster”.
Banger for the heart !

The first remixer is none other than David Carretta himself.
We are really proud that he agreed to contribute to this release. David brings all his talent in the track “Superchampion” to make it a hit between Italo & EBM. A hopeful story of almost 7 minutes at a time when tracks are unfortunately too short to tell great stories…

The last but not the least, the talentuous Doctr drops the second remix !
And it’s the perfect track to complete the release.
As usual, the dutch artist shows his mastery of Italo music.
Dropping perfect Batucada percussions to launch the track and during a crazy break, he brings to the original piece a real vintage but modern side ! Amazing !

Margot et Max, the dynamic French Boogie duo, are back with their second single, drawing inspiration from the early house sound of the nineties they love. While Max asks Margot how things are going, Margot responds with a resounding 'Non, Ça Va Pas !'.

This sets the tone for the rest of the song, as Margot's vocals deliver impactful lyrics that touch on the everyday struggles of modern life.

As the song progresses, the lighthearted list of life's little grievances gives way to a more critical examination of the petit-bourgeois aspects of our society.

But this is no philosophy lesson - "Non Ça Va Pas !" is all very funky with an impressive instrumental, filled with house piano keys and a bumping bassline that will get you moving and hopefully make you feel better.

Having released four singles from their forthcoming EP earlier this year, Supertaste drop the full package ‘The Richest Form of Communication’.

Joining the likes of ‘Power’, ‘Is It Enough', ‘Always You’ and ‘Dunston’, which all received mega support across DSPs, the EP is completed with latest single ‘Shot In The Dark.’ 

'Shot in the Dark' is a track that exudes the ultimate indie-funk vibe. Combining mirrorball groove with interlocking kick drums throughout ‘Shot In The Dark’ is Supertaste’s most danceable track yet. Kicking off the track with catchy-guitar lines which transform with additions of pleasurable bassline and groovy rhythms, Supertaste once again showcase use of instruments, effects and layers to make for a perfectly produced track. 

Supertaste's third EP, titled 'The Richest Form of Communication', showcases the band's growth as a live ensemble. With a focus on refining their instrumentation and performance, the EP was recorded in the mountainous region of Western Tennessee, taking inspiration from the band's love of good company, fine wine and food. The music on this EP reflects the emotions and creativity of the band's trip, incorporating elements of dance music, layered guitars, and subdued keys to create a distinctive sound that can be likened to a blend of Jungle, Tame Impala, and Tom Misch. The group’s unique sound along with their indie look makes for endless listening for huge crossover appeal.

Celebrating the launch at Soho House in their hometown, New York, the EP is just the beginning for Supertaste. With live session recordings, music videos, custom made beer, DJ sets in London and guest mixes set for the coming month, these guys are poised to deliver in 2023.

With Summer well and truly underway, Toolroom are set to unveil the hotly anticipated return of renowned Glaswegian artist KC Lights, as he delivers yet another classic record in the making – ‘Better Times’, featuring the stunning voice of Merseyside-hailing Låpsley.
