Speaking to THUMP last year, before the release of his Carry On EP, producer Ben Hackman explained how growing up in the countryside played an important role in shaping his music taste. “In the middle of nowhere you have a different set of influences,” he told Nick Yim. Much like the man himself, Hackman's THUMP mix is a mishmash of influences drawing on classic house, boogie, funk interspersed silky-smooth R&B vocals as well as a couple of his own tracks. While he might have long since relocated to the city, Hackman clearly still has a knack for weaving various musical threads into a sumptuous and pleasing whole.

Corona has of course put my touring life on hold, nevertheless I have tried and turn the lockdown into a positive time and reached some fellow artist to collaborate on music and utilize the time to stay productive and enjoy the country side where I am currently based.

🗯🗯 Do you have any wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

I do hope things will go back to normal of course although I also wish our industry would take a fresher start and open up to what’s great rather than what’s known for being known. So much grand breaking music out there that doesn’t break through because playing safe has been the leitmotiv of our industry for too many years. I believe this is a time of change and we shall push towards the deeper and forward thinking.
