Automatic Tasty - One Foot in The Rave [Winthorpe Electronics // WEAT12x9]

The prolific Jonny Dillon aka Automatic Tasty from Wicklow, Ireland, should be familiar to most with an interest in acid inspired electronic music. 15 years of releases on such luminary labels as Acid Waxa, Further Electronix, Lunar Disko, Wrong Island and CPU, his debut release on Winthorpe is an 8 track LP of stylish and subtle machine braindance titled "One Foot in the Rave".

The LP is a vibrant collection of tracks that showcase Jonny's signature styles - melodic melancholic acid jams, bleepy funk and warm analog electronics. Suitable for the stero or the soundsystem, from the upfront bounce of "The Apocalypse is Now" and "Raymond Tuesday's Big Day Out" to the shimmering reverb of "Starry Night" and birdsong of "Ringfort" we're in familiar Tasty psychedelic terrain.

According to the man himself "What to say about this record? I don’t really know and it hardly matters. I wrote them on different bits of gear; ye olde faithful Roland SH101, my MC202 (pencil and paper derigeur), a battered x0xb0x 1.0 (thx Daniel!), a beloved Yamaha CS-5, a similarly beloved Roland SH5, a truly hammered Juno106, a Roland JX3P, a Nord something or other, an MPC2500, my TR606, and a Vermona DRM1 MKII being sequenced via a bedraggled TR626. Also Jay’s TR808 is on there (thx Jay!) and a TR8 being squashed through a Mutronics Mutator (wheee Damo!) and a Zoom H4n recorder. I edited them on a dilapidated laptop, with no headphones or monitors, steering by the tiny speakers on the computer and playing them in my car, twiddling the mix as I went. But these are frivolous and unimportant details. All that matters is that these songs were made out of love. Cheerio, Jonny.

Did I ever mention being a fan of Snooker? Well, I am. And there is one reason in particular, why I do: It's the kindness and sportsmanship of the players. I cannot remember any other sport where the opponent applaud each other for great shots and celebrate for reaching 100 points or even 147 (the maximum number of points, very rare). My wife usually says that Snooker is great for bed time, as it supports falling asleep. I strongly disagree. It's full of suspense, tragedy, and fun. However, I wish all people would be that kind and supportive to one another like these players are. And in the end, I agree that the sport can be helpful to come down and chill.
